They (GOP) have no-one to blame but themselves. They’ve over-emphasized wedge issues to keep their base riled up and promoted various kinds of magical thinking to keep the riled-up from understanding evidence and logic. (Think about their unwillingness to acknowledge Evolution, e.g.).
In Trump those riled-up folks found a leader much more to their liking than GW Bush or Reagan. Either the riled take over the GOP and the moderates all depart, or the riled depart to form La Partida Trumpista.
Notice - well I did because they are my senators - John Cornyn is named but Ted Cruz who has been thoroughly humiliated by Trump isn’t.

most all of these “100 former GOP senior national security officials” were already at a point where they would have been happy to have personally taken a Louisville Slugger home-run shot straight to Trump’s head - they were already nauseated by the ineptitude that he brought to national security and diplomacy
bit yeah - big big money rejection of Trump hitting critical mass certainly is helping to open the flood gates… let’s hope that along the way there are some sharp elbows rocketed into Mitch’s ribs admonishing him not to let his petty politics be an obstacle to the nations recovery.

My senator is Pat Toomey. That rat bastard found what little spine he had way too late to save his legacy. History will record everyone on that list as part of the trump congress. The most spineless and corrupt congress in the history of these United States. You can bet that history will not be kind - especially to the republicans in the Senate. They utterly failed to uphold the oaths they swore when they took office. Cowards - every last one of them.
Exactly, and it was always a marriage of convenience that would eventually fall apart the moment each side outlived it’s usefulness to the other. It just so happens that they reached that moment at the same time. While the GOP wants to part ways amicably and civilly for the kids’ sake, Trump is gonna want full custody with no GOP visitation, alimony, child support, and he keeps the house, all marital property, and both pensions. He won’t settle for a dime less.
Yep, absolutely no one. In fact, many of the people who bear-hugged Trump the tightest during his administration were the ones who spoke out the loudest against his nomination (glares at Lindsay Graham).
