Really? They are ‘concerned’? There is no economic rationale for trump’s tariffs. The whole point of them is to punish trump’s enemies - real and perceived - and to dispense favors to countries, industries, companies, and individuals when they come groveling, all to increase trump’s personal power and control over the economy. Of course he is doing backroom deals. Backroom deals are a feature of the trump kakistocracy, not a bug.
And if the merchants we buy from would be good enough to explicitly itemize the cost/price increases due to tarriffs, it is only fair that consumers be able to deduct these from their income tax bill.
Of course, the shipping agents and the merchants themselves will also feel entitled to deduct these same tarriffs from their tax bill as well. But, that is not my problem.
