There is a time and a place for everything. The bathroom is a place for a few things, all of them personal. Had they waited until she came out, no one would have made a fuss about this. I agree, however, there are no grounds for prosecution. As our resident legal expert (@txlawyer) reminded us, “the po-po’s gotta po-po.”
Agree. Follow up questions, like all weapons, are dangerous and must be controlled and suppressed.
The idiots dogging Sinema should have realized how it would look, but “Public official trying to dodge non-violent public protesters” is not a protected use of a public restroom. It’s just a dodge.
They should have given it thought though. Tracking the women into a bathroom was sure to become an issue and used to divert sympathy for their mission of getting Sinema on the record. And voila!
That was the part where I labeled them “idiots” who “should have realized how it would look.”
“Put Sinema under arrest for her fashion crimes, and to prevent similar crimes moving forward.“
I’m glad you said that. The other day some firebrand here decided to call me out for saying that. It seems like Sinema weaponizes her attire, so it’s fair game. Who said political warfare was pretty?
I’m not exactly nostalgic for the vertebrally challenged Jeff Flake, but still-JFC
I think so too. It’s not the same sort of breach of civility as, for example, chanting “Hey, hey LBJ, how many kids did you kill today”, or even burning Trump in effigy. Those last two are justified because they affect the target only by what they say, which is the whole point. But following Sinema into a restroom is an invasion of her privacy, of her personal space. The protesting community should police their own here by roundly condemning that action.
Slightly OT, but good on them:
Their defense is easy. “When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go.”
Cops that could not make the psych or background check cut for city police end up enforcing 15mph speed limits on campus. Luckily they still get guns so they can eventually shoot some one.
Which is what she was counting on. I guarantee you that no bodily functions were imperiled at the time. The kids were still idiots for following her in, but Sinema was equally idiotic.
Please, please let’s not disparage speed limit enforcement on campuses.
Depends.
But in a way shrewd. I agree she probably didn’t engage in bodily functions in that stall but did play the scene well. She deftly lured them into self defeat. Now, if she could just legislate with similar skill.
So @khyber900, are we about to lose our Democracy yet? I’m getting worried again. We need to get something passed and secure voting rights legislation.
Only if they can get a handle on their whereabouts. I’m willing to float some ideas on where they are.
More panicked than shrewd. Sinema simply lacks the basic personal skills necessary to navigate life as a public official. As noted previously, everything about her is just unprocessed childhood trauma.
That happens to me in the Costco bathroom all the time. Sometimes there’s as many as 10 guys in there!
I think Josh Marshall summed her up nicely when he called her “preening”.
