Pew: Trayvon Martin Killing Tops News Interest Survey | Talking Points Memo

A new survey from the Pew Research Center found that the killing of Trayvon Martin was the news story that most interested Americans last week. “Overall, a quarter of Americans (25%) say they followed news about the African American teenager killed by a community watch volunteer more closely than any other story,” Pew wrote in their News Interest Index report. “Smaller percentages say they followed news about the presidential elections (16%) or the economy (15%) most closely.” Next were the killings of Afghan citizens by a US Army Staff Sargent, the controversey around a bounty program instituted by the New Orleans Saints football team that paid players bonuses to hurt other players, and the killings at a French Jewish school.
