As a number of people have pointed out, talk of a “second wave” of Covid-19 misses the point that the first wave never ended; this biases conversation by making it seem as if staying at the current death rate would be OK. Is this projection acceptable? 1/

We may very well be living with this virus indefinitely. In Pennsylvania we’ve plateaued at about 500 new cases a day. It’s slowly increasing in the more rural central counties. National death toll 113K. It’s funny, I’ve said and thought “go to hell” so many times before, but now I mean it; I want this whole pack of thieving incompetent killers to die and go to hell. I wish I believed in it and could look forward to it happening. But let them die of COVID-19. Let their happy talk gurgle out as they drown in their own blood.

People like this put huge swaths of our country in peril. My sister, over 60 and diabetic, told me that she went to the grocery store and was horrified that many people weren’t wearing masks, including a couple of employees. People looked at her funny because she was. Friends in town invited her to a “thank goodness this is over” pot luck. These are her county’s stats for the day:
Total cases of COVID: 10, 240
Total deaths: 377
New deaths reported for yesterday: 5
New cases reported for yesterday: 329
Their graph lines are headed straight up. 3 guesses where many of the people in this county get their news.

Exactly what I was gonna say. We’re never gonna get out of the first wave for there to even be a second wave. Of all the shit that’s gone down this year, the wildest thing about 2020 is that people think they can just ignore a pandemic and it’ll go away.

It’s willful blindness on a national scale. It’s pretty breathtaking.
Texas will hit 100,000 cases in the next week or so. We’re almost at 90,000 now.
But plucky, I’m not convinced they believe it’s over - I think they just think it’s not going to get them. It will get me and they do not care.
I am so ready to take every asset I have out of this country.
