Pentagon: 34 Soldiers Have Brain Injuries After Iran Strike

Huh. So Trump lied to us again. Quelle surprise.

Not any more. At the beginning of the Iraq War II, sure, but thatā€™s all evolved over the years, pretty standard protocol for them to be taken back for evaluation and treatment, as theyā€™ve found that the quicker you get people in treatment, the better the outcomes.

And Landstuhl has a special TBI program for just this reason. Not that youā€™re at all wrong-- a bunch did get treated on site, so must have been very minor. But doesnā€™t take much, anything questionable and theyā€™ll send them out.

As a Vet who has spent much of my professional life trying to help other Vets get access to timely care, this is so destructive on so many levels. DOD and the VA have spent years trying to change their own cultures over PTSD and TBIs and have made headway (no pun intended). For warfighters who have suffered blast injuries the consequences can be devastating, even leading to suicide. Body armor and helmets do a good job protecting from external wounds but they also result in your brain getting rattled like a jar of marbles. I am sure many would give up a leg or an arm to have their brain back. Disgraceful and ignorant beyond words.

Then Iā€™m gonna enjoy watching him backpedal.

Researchers say the study suggests a blast-related concussion could result in loss of the ability to control impulses and could lead to behaviors such as gambling or heavy drinking.

Well, in my defense, I did set off a lot of cherry bombs in my younger years.

And that lead to cherries in you cocktails?

Iā€™ll drink to that.

Oh, FFS. What would you have him do? If he goes, then the responsibility passes to one of his subordinates, who gets in the hot seat. While heā€™s there, heā€™s taking the heat for everyone else.

You enjoy trashing the military, theyā€™re doing their job that the civilians overseeing have mandated. Save your anger for the 53 Senators who refuse to remove the POS to save the country.

Thatā€™s the pointā€¦otherwise, they ALL wouldā€™ve been shipped over there. They clearly made triage decisions and obviously have sufficient equipment to triage head injuries. People would not be sent just for a concussion, which would present no significant reason for them to be treated beyond how a child would be treated after knocking himself out playing on an icey pond, i.e., 24 hour observation, not being allowed to sleep, etc. Those who suffered worse, which could present during that 24-hour observation or could be readily apparent from the get-go, would get shipped out. Heck, sending them there for a concussion would probably take longer than the usual treatment protocol for the concussion.

What happened here is that some likely suffered injuries for which it was readily apparent that they needed to go to Germany. Others, it may have taken a few days. Others, maybe it was just a concussion or some forehead stitches. Perhaps the threshhold for getting shipped out is low, but thereā€™s still a line somewhere. I canā€™t imagine it falls close to mere concussion though, which is why I say the people shipped out did not suffer injuries that can be blown off or minimizedā€¦and yet here Trump is doing just that.

Add these to the thousands more with TBI from years fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
My nephew- a 24 year Army Vet spent the majority of his time in Afghanistan-Iraq-Afghanistan-Iraq-Africaā€¦now, receives Botox injections for excruciating headaches that- at times- causes him to ball-up in a Fetal position to try to relieve the pain:. Trump can kiss my ASS.

I have to be political here, but this makes a REALLY GOOD AD. President ā€œbone spurā€ does not care about vets. He is on TAPE. Combined with calling the generals ā€œidiots and loosersā€, Bloomberg needs to go to town on this.

Donā€™t count on Bernie or Warren or Steyer using their $$$ to go after Trump on this.

All that needs to be done is to expand this great advertisement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izkONjZM9zI Adding in video of Trump on the current injuries and then a copy of the letter he got from his doctor on his bone spurs and the video of him saying he had a harder fight avoiding getting STDs in NYC in the 70sā€¦

That was my thought. They must have imaging equipment in Kuwait and Germany they donā€™t in Iraq, and the specialists to read the scans.

Headaches are no joke. My mom used to get debilitating ones that would have her getting rushed to the ER, because back when I was little in the 80ā€™s, MAOI drugs were still used to treat depression, and if you eat the wrong thing while on thoseā€¦blamā€¦literally crying and wailing out loud while being led to the car. It used to scare the living shit out of us.

True. Sometimes they move them out of theater so they donā€™t feel the pressure to return to duty too fast. Plus, they can get evaluated in a calm environment.

The 8 that went on to the U.S., totally with you that itā€™s highly likely that those are serious, indicates long-term treatment needs when they send them all the way back for specialized treatment. The 9 left in Germany, no real way to tell the level, would agree that those arenā€™t just a football concussion.

This came up the other day, and itā€™s just astonishing to me that any president, much less a president whoā€™s used the military to his political advantage so shamelessly, would make light of any combat injury at all. But thatā€™s Trumpā€”if he needs to be able to say there were no injuries and thus no blowback from his brilliant maneuver, then heā€™ll express casual contempt for those injuries, like a boo-boo on the T-ball field. This is how predictably nuts he isā€”if the alternative is accepting some measure of responsibility, or putting aside personal pique, then everything goes out the window, including any concern for combat injuries and deaths or being made a prisoner of war. Who ā€œlostā€ Ryan? The generals lost Ryan. Just astonishing.

over-indexed in red/rural areasā€¦

But I think Vets and active duty service members are catching on, Trumpā€™s numbers are falling, and at this point only has a 42% approval with active duty solders:

Given that the military is more male than female, his support is actually lower with active duty soldiers than the US population at large. For example in the recent Monmoth poll, Trump getā€™s 52% support from Men, and only 34% from women.

The problem is testosterone poisoning, not being in the military.

p.s. I am hopeful that Trumpā€™s self-absorbed nature will cost him big time with military voters, and that this will put North Carolina in playā€¦

Yeah, and I read somewhere a survey/poll showed that there is a very distinct divide in terms of officers and enlisted. Officers cannot fucking stand himā€¦much higher rate of disapproval than with enlisted.
