She’s not wrong. I love her.
“I hear people say from time to time, ‘well, it’s a personal decision of a judge as to whether he should recuse himself,” Pelosi said.
I find this a bit incredible. Why can’t there be guidelines actually spelled out for when Justices need to recuse?
Also, whether this goes anywhere or not, it’s vital to put a marker down where Thomas is concerned. Every decision he makes in the future, whether it’s on abortion, voting rights, unions, or anything else, should be viewed as tainted by the general public. The Roberts Court should continue to hemorrhage credibility and trust in the eyes of Americans. It’ll make it easier, at some point, to enact necessary reforms.
I guess I might also question Roberts’ “non-partisan” nature. He’s probably just more careful of his image and legacy. Here’s an article from Slate, yesterday:
I would bet Clarence will announce his “medical” retirement. But only when a Republican is in control of the Senate or Executive branch again. He has absolutely no concern about his “legacy.” He’s more an “I got mine, Jack” kinda guy. Ginni? She’s just another D.C. politico’s lunatic wife.
This clown sits in Thurgood Marshall’s seat.
Shameful, that. It is one other reason to shun this disgraceful couple.
Not really.
A seat on the Court doesn’t belong to any particular justice, especially one no longer serving.
Except for the Chief Justice, all the seats are the same and new justices are appointed to a vacant seat, not one belonging to a former justice.
She can keep it as simple and concise as you want. It won’t make a bit of difference unless enough House and Senate members are onboard to set some rules. Now, I’m nt sure if this can be done by a simple majority or not, but it would be more possible that way.
She’s making a statement now, in an ever-changing news cycle where even the issues we want discussed always seems to lose their place in the sun, because the MSM has moved on to the next thing (and republicans make sure of that). There are also plenty of other important issues out there. Everything seems to get short attention these days, and we don’t get to pick. Having a bigger majority might help the whole situation considerably. Less Manchin/Sinema obstruction.
Not for long.
True dat. However, he replaced Marshall and has done nothing to follow his legacy.
I believe, 100%, that Thomas’ conduct is worthy of impeachment. It is also politically not feasible, would never result in removal, and therefore would be a waste of time. I would rather have the singular focus of Congress be on airing the J6 findings.
My zeal for Thomas’ removal from the bench will be satiated somewhat by the knowledge that the newest Associate Justice KBJ will be giving him the side-eye during every oral argument and every discussion of preliminary decisions until the day he dies.
When there is no way Thomas will ever be impeached and convicted by this Congress or any conceivable one in the near future, it would be ridiculous and pointless for Pelosi to say he’s “gotta go.”
What she said was fine, referencing what Thomas should be doing and what Congress might be able to do. Along with a typical Pelosian twist of the verbal knife.
Countered by, the Constitution explicitly states that each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and expel a member. That same standard applies to the Court. And remember, in 1803 we set ourselves up as the sole arbiter of Constitutional interpretation, so with all due respect, thanks for the suggestion, but no. If you disagree, feel free to file US Congress v Supreme Court. We’ll put it on the shadow docket in short order.
Thomas will never notice with his eyes focused 8 inches under her chin.
I think this would be a good start to confront the entire GQP with the mantle of anti-constitutional, anti-American coup plotters.
Take the gloves off!!! Call the ReThugs just what they are: insurrectionists (and maybe traitors too) Force their leaders to either come out and disengage themselves from the plotters or stand with them. This really is a fight for the soul of our democracy.
And do you think there are any more loyal Americans on the right aside from Liz Chaney?
Thomas gotta go!!!
She will need to check the rim of her Coke can before she drinks.
And that Clarence Thomas voted to cover up his wife’s texts to Meadows and others involved with her in the planning of and in the insurrection itself.
That’s why I said ‘grounds for’ not ‘we will impeach’.
We all understand that there will never be enough Senators to convict with the current GOP, but we will never make any progress if we don’t clearly communicate what corrupt action is beyond the pale.

Nancy just said the SOB shouldn’t have been appointed in the first place and asked where the FUCK the SC’s ethical standards are. She’s a warrior queen and she’d be the first one to stab a Nazgul right in his goddamn face. “I am no man!” BOOM
So who would be Merry? Gotta break the spell first.

Legally yes. The the Majority of the GQP in the Senate will never vote to convict the POS.
But politically it would be very useful to show the majority of the Country that does not back sedition just what these bast*rd’s were willing to excuse just to maintain power.
Congress should absolutely hold hearings on the Thomas’ involvement. I wouldn’t go for impeachment since there’s no chance of a conviction, but oversight hearings will put it out in the public as much as impeachment hearings would.
