Why? The Constitution gives the House the sole power to impeach, which it has exercised. It then gives the Senate the sole power to try the impeachment, and the Senate has the sole power to set its rules of procedure. The current rules specify how the House presents its Articles and how the trial proceeds from there. That’s the sticking point, how can McConnell change the rules, which raises another question, what happens if he ignores the rules.
Precisely, which is why Pelosi (I discount Schumer) will not deliver the Articles until McConnell “release[s] a resolution laying out the process of the impeachment trial in full.” Being a cynic at heart, what happens if McConnell releases a resolution, Pelosi delivers the Articles, and McConnell then passes a resolution countering the original?

I think a simple majority can pass a resolution to make any impeachment trial related votes anonymous.

True, but does the GOP really care about that? McConnell ignored his Constitutional duty on Merrick Garland at zero cost. He’ll just say he did what he had to do because Pelosi was putting the country at grave risk (see @johnrm’s post above) and now the Senate can get on doing the people’s (i.e., GOP corporate funders) business.
Just a few squishes do. The same ones that won’t give MM the votes to go full kangaroo on the trial by holding it without the House referral.
