It was going to require actions more alarming and damaging than breaking windows and parading through Capitol hallways to put Trump in the position to invoke whatever laws at his disposal to essentially suspend the election count, and our government, and seize at least temporary command of everything despite losing the election. Why the hell else just sit and watch and wait for things inside the Capitol to genuinely go to hell, and reach some point he had to intervene militarily? I have to believe he held off saying something, hoping a member of Congress, or several, were either taken hostage or killed. The building lit afire. Something horrible. All this speculation this morning in the media that this was his goal rings true. He intended to declare himself de facto emperor and burrow in like a tick in the Oval Office. And I guess eventually dare other powers in our government to root him out, all the while rallying the same people that assaulted the Capitol to support him staying in office. He may have planned for DC itself to have become an armed camp of Proud Boys, Oath Keepers and 3%ers, all warding off anyone that came for him.

Probably true. Alas, you’ll never go broke betting on the racism of white people, and the anti-Barnes ads I’ve seen in Madison are dog-whistling a plenty.
However, I have seen some polling data from Marquette University, the best pollsters in the state, suggesting that Barnes leads if uncertain voters are factored in. So here’s hoping for a good turnout!
