The House Democrats should call Trump’s bluff:
[0] Cast a formal vote initiating an impeachment inquiry.
[1] Assign all impeachment proceedings to Judiciary or to a special committee.
[2] Allow the Ranking Member as well as the Chairman to issue subpoenas.
[3] Allow the President to have counsel present at all hearings and to question witnesses.
[4] And go full speed ahead.

I’m with you on [0] and [4].

I’m not sure about [1]; it really depends on who’d be on that committee.

Empowering the current occupant to review the evidence now, and query witnesses, is enabling obstruction and misdirection. As it is, his interests have a voice through the members of his party in the House. They’re not shy of acting as his partisans.

Indeed they continually informed the president about the ongoing Mueller investigation. The investigators were keeping the subject apprised of everything they found as the investigation moved forward. It rendered the Mueller investigation (and really any investigation originating in the congress) useless.
I also remember how disgusted America was when Ford pardoned Tricky Dicky.
