Guess she’s got polls saying that it’s worth it to trade progressive votes in blue states for moderate votes in swing states. IOW, maybe she thinks it’s impossible to hold on to both progressives and moderates/independents and has decided to keep her focus on the latter group despite the (growing) anger of the other. The call for impeachment is loud, but not necessarily in places Dems need to win.
I’ve seen a lot of “bust” people lately who think Dems are as evil as rethugs and therefore not worthy of their votes, including some influential twitterers. The hostility from some Dem voters towards House Dems is so appalling that the only explanation for Pelosi’s move (which will no doubt further anger these people) I can think of is that she’s confident their votes won’t matter in elections.
Nancy might as well be a Trump appointee- she shields him from consequence at every turn and attacks/demoralizes Democrats daily.
She’s a mistake that we need to undo.
After the shambles of the Mueller hearing, with Democratic reps preferring to get themselves in front of the cameras instead of having a modern Sam Dash doing forensic questioning, I can’t blame Nancy for not trusting these clowns to hold impeachment hearings.
I highly doubt that because I highly doubt even 1/3 of the voting public has any idea what’s going on. I’d wager that outside of diehard political junkies on both sides of the equation few Americans are even aware that impeachment is even being seriously discussed. That is why I think there is such a reluctance to move forward. This isn’t 1974 and we don’t live in anywhere near close to the same media environment. I’m not particularly convinced that Americans are suddenly going to perk up and pay attention, and the success of any impeachment inquiry relies on engaging the voting public.
My greatest worry about Trumps abuse of power is some future presidency of a Republican who sees Trumps precedents, and uses them effectively to create an unstoppable tyranny.
He seems to be doing a pretty good job of that right now. A second term will cinch it up for him.
My favorite is Murrow
" A nation of sheep will beget a government of wolves ."
As it often happens when somebody is in control, he doesn’t want to be in charge.
“We don’t have the votes”
And Dems wonder why their base is so apathetic. Where is the morality and arm twisting to get something done?
i think you got me before i spent 2 minutes and edited my post. although not really sure how that happened? must be a delay or something since i updated it 10 min before you posted. Maybe a refresh thing?
I don’t know but as you can see my non reactionary reply is different. not a big deal, just letting you know i took 2 minutes to calm down and think
I really hope he can get the information. Things just do not seem to be in our favor, everything is going thru the courts and justice is a very slow process.
Wouldn’t want to be divisive, now would we?
Those are good points.
She might also be trying to avoid a situation where, if she is seen as all-in and gang ho for impeachment, she could be accused of doing it out of self-interest: she is second in line to the presidency, and if Trump is removed and Pence gets Spiro Agnew’ed out of office, she would become the president.
Well. That’s a wee bit more harsh than necessary, don’t you think? She makes mistakes, but make no mistake: she haunts Trump in his nightmares most days of the week. And I grew up around men who talked about “undoing” women whose actions or speech they didn’t like. That’s not a great sound bite.
Of course the Trump administration is blocking investigations with any method what-so-ever, legal or illegal. So, I do believe we have a tempest in a teapot. I have been ultra-supportive of Pelosi, but her reaction this time was simply a very wrong choice.
Their message should have been, in unison, we expected this from a former Trump official and wanted it on record. We have to have the record for posterity that they refused any all opportunities to answer these questions. What Pelosi did is just a distraction from anything that could help.
Instead of circling the wagons when optics don’t go their way, she has staked herself on dividing her caucus. I am disappointed in her.
This whole thing mirrors our current presidential nominee contest. We desperately need more parties. I know, I know; never gonna happen.
I agree to a point.
Certainly she shouldn’t bring a losing vote to the floor.
OTOH, I have no problem with folks stating here their disapproval of her handling of the communications regarding impeachment.
She needs to stop publicly undermining the process.
Most elected Democrats are thoughtful, sensible conservatives. Few understand this as well as the Speaker. I love it when liberals get elected but they are far from majority.
I’m a fan of all that Nancy has done, but she has played her impeachment hand so poorly I really think it’s time for her to be replaced as Speaker for this alone.
Frankly, 6 months after the release of the partial Mueller report, spent dithering about and twiddling their collective thumbs, has resulted in the window passing to build that support.
Within a month of the Starr report being released, House republicans had already drawn up articles of impeachment. We on the other hand, have our Speaker continuing to undermine and discourage any talk of impeachment.
I am pretty confident that it isn’t going to happen. There will be no vote in the House to impeach the President under Pelosi’s watch.
A pro-donor agenda. Too bad about the country though.
