What we, as a whole, unfortunately, are not grasping is that tens of millions of people will vote for this person. This is a rot that is not solved by elections, and quite frankly I think we passed the event horizon a long time ago and there is no escape. I don’t know what the solution is, but it’s not redeemable.

Mrs. Jstrummer picked up Tim Alberta’s book The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in the Age of Extremism. She decided to start reading it a few days ago. She hasn’t slept the last few nights, and all I can get out of her is, “you won’t believe this”. Not sure if I want to read it.

With respect, I believe that’s the wrong way to frame this. Instead, it’s that tens of millions of people will vote against Kamala and the Democratic party. It’s negative partisanship.
Trump has a cult base, but I believe a majority of Republicans will be holding their noses, wishing he would just shut up, and vote for him anyway because they don’t want a Democrat for President. Some of it may be simple racism or misogyny, but it’s mostly that they don’t like the policies of the Democratic party. They think we’ll take their guns, they don’t believe in climate change, they don’t like immigrants, pick your poison. So they’ll vote for a guy fellating a microphone to keep Democrats out of power.
There is one solution I can think of, and it’s tighter government controls over social media. Restrict the use of personal data, and restrict algorithms that feed people “news” that makes them angry for the sake of engagement.
I don’t blame social media for everything, but it’s a big part of how we got here. Trump would never have gotten anywhere in the days of the big three broadcast TV networks and no Internet.
