Oregon’s attorney general Ellen Rosenblum warned Friday that clashes between protesters and federal agents who were dispatched to quell them, “could be happening in your city next.”
While I didn’t view it (cannot stomach it), Trump is alleged to have said on Hannity that the sending of federal agents to cities would require that they “have to be invited in.” While Donnie’s word isn’t worth its weight in mush, isn’t this a slight walk back from his prior position? What self-respecting city authority will tender an invitation? Granted there are governors who might invite federal agents to a city, but the result is conflict between city and state officials again. What am I missing?
" He explained his reasoning in a 14-page decision. While the case involves allegations of harm done to protesters by law enforcement, he wrote, the plaintiff is not a protester."
Understanding States’ Rights and the 10th Amendment.Republican Mantra at a time seemingly a long time ago.
In a statement issued after the ruling, Rosenblum said: “While I respect Judge Mosman, I would ask this question: If the state of Oregon does not have standing to prevent this unconstitutional conduct by unidentified federal agents running roughshod over her citizens, who does?”
The Court believes that Oregon doesn’t have standing to protect it’s residents.
Le’s see: folks carried off the street in unmarked vehicles for ???; a protester whose skull was shattered by a non-lethal round; the mayor, and countless others, who were gassed in the middle of a pandemic; the retired Navy guy who, in an event analogous to nothing so much as the elderly man pushed to the ground by police in Buffalo, was gassed and had his hand broken by repeated strikes with a baton for, what, standing in the wrong place.
If the state of Oregon does not have an interest it preventing these kinds of behaviors under cover of a federal law enforcement action, presumably it’s time for the legislature to revisit, and possibly revoke, the local laws criminalizing assault, reckless endangerment and kidnapping.
The question comes to mind why more attorneys general and district attorneys have not promised to jail and prosecute unmarked federal goons who break local laws. Why only two jurisdictions so far have promised this measure?
Mosman is a GW Bush appointee. The state of Oregon has no standing to object to the Federal government sending armed anonymous thugs over the objections of all Oregon’s top elected officials into the state of Oregon to kidnap, beat, and gas Oregonians.
This guy could hardly go more all-in for Trump. It’s the Republicans, man.
