Any article about how Gallego won should devote at least a paragraph to how bad his opponent was. I don’t believe Gallego wins against a ‘normal’ candidate, even a MAGA one. Lake had spent years proving to the state’s voters that she’s nuts and in it for herself.
Trump won the presidency 2x.
Cartoonishly awful opponents can and do win…
Laken Riley just passed with 10 Dems.
Great job team
Like Reuben Gallego, Rep Marie Gluesenkamp-Perez was a fortunate to have a MAGA lunatic, Joe Kent, as an opponent.
What’s Harris’ excuse then?
Just like when Reagan won… roll over.
Makes sense, its the same people
[spit take]
Harris got 13,000 fewer votes than Kari Lake
And Trump got 100,000 more than Gallego
That’s weird …. Curious to know the county by county results and cross check for trends
This helps provide a graphical summary
Swing States were just super Pro Trump - nothing really to see here. Trump won in a landslide in the swing states - he’s the true electoral champion- forget all the discussions on policy - or off hand remarks about vote counting machines
Look if there was smoke we would see it in the data - and there is no data. The Swing states were just so much more pro Trump than any other R-D matchup in the last 24 years.
Obviously that’s the answer
Everyone agrees that there are less and less swing voters and that, largely, elections are won by one side being more Jazzed than the other, and turning out…
The out party always has this advantage. This often can be overcome by the incumbent advantages… but in some years incumbency is a negative. 2024 was one of those years.
AZ had a Sinema Problem so in a real sense both Lake and Gallego were the out party, but only one a serious person.
Honestly this article is in bad taste given the one news story that is just an embarrassment for the world
Gallegos did just fine, he won a fair election against a nut , but he should shut his mouth about why he’s so special compared to Harris when he’s just laying cover for the getaway
The numbers tell what happened. Biden beat Trump by 7 million votes in 2020. In 2024, 3.9 million Democrats who supported Joe in 2020 did not vote for anyone for president because they were mad at Biden because of Gaza, inflation, immigration etc. Trump held onto his base + 3 million Republicans, Independents and Dems who voted for Biden in 2020.
My comment was in response to simplifying Gallego’s win to having a cartoonishly awful opponent… because so did Harris.
And of course that’s not the whole story in either case…
