One Georgia County Perfectly Demonstrates The Republican Party’s Dramatic About-Face On Mail-In Voting

More baseless accusations from the usual suspects. They really are almost Orwellian, in that they can change their history with a stroke of the pen. It’s actually a very pretty part of the state, but as one would guess, quite rural.

At the same MLK Jr, Jackie Robinson and Juliette Gordon Low (founder of Girl Scouts) are from GA.

There’s no mystery here, though everyone feigns ignorance.

1.Trump or at least his top advisors had a very good idea he was going to lose.
2. They also understood how the “red mirage” might temporarily make it look like he was winning.
3. Instead of trying to maximize their vote, they sought to maximize the mirage by encouraging their people to vote on election day and by discrediting mail in.
4. The plan was clear: to declare victory on election night and fight to get the late counted votes thrown out, all part of a pre planned coup.
5. The plan failed because democrats did a decent job of publicly predicting the red mirage, and because fox’s news division screwed the pooch by calling Arizona. All those people at Fox have now been sacked.

Everything else is noise. Trump didn’t do what he did reacting to an unexpected loss. He planned it months in advance. Nothing else explains all of his actions.

I’m a fan of mail -in voting. I like taking my time and thinking about the choices before i fill out the ballot. Then my custom is to deliver my ballot to our county recorder’s myself and hand it to a human. I don’t want the Post Office involved. The reason is I live in Tucson. Our mail gets trucket to Phoenix to be sorted. That mail destined for a Tucson address gets trucked back. A 240 mile round trip. Now the recorder’s office is 1.7 miles from my house. It makes sense for me to deliver my ballot and not the Post Office

Trump will lose again an whine just as loudly as before… until he is silenced by being in a prison cell

I doubt it would work to our advantage because the media outlets that gave credence to republican complaints and “questions” would IMMEDIATELY call out democrats for doing the same thing. Obviously, that would not be a bad way to conduct journalism if it were even handed.

At any rate, this is one reason that I encourage democrats to explicitly state that while republicans target voter suppression, democratic efforts to make voting access easier apply as much to repub voters as dems.

Lumpkin County was created on December 3, 1832.[3] The county was named for Wilson Lumpkin, who at the time was Governor of Georgia.[4] Lumpkin’s daughter, Martha Wilson Lumpkin Compton, was the namesake of the town named Marthasville, the early-1840s name for Atlanta in Fulton County; this was designated as the capital of the state after the Civil War.

In the 1830s, gold was discovered in the county near Auraria, leading to a rush of miners and development. The U.S. government established a mint in Dahlonega, operating for 23 years until the outbreak of the American Civil War. State contractors later acquired gold from Lumpkin County to gild the dome of the current state capitol building in Atlanta.

Not a lot of gold comes from Lumpkin, now.
It’s home to North Georgia University, a decent unit of the Georgia University system. Formerly N. GA College, it used to be the state’s military academy: all males living on campus had to be ROTC. That ended in the '90s.
At the end of GA. 400, it’s just north of Forsyth Co, which has a notorious history of racism and a violent anti black pogrom in 1912. (See: 1912 racial conflict in Forsyth County, Georgia - Wikipedia) and has shared that historic racist violence.

It was the scene of a lynching of Union partisans from Fannin County (“a hotbed of Unionism and outright opposition to the Confederacy” according to one historian) in 1864: if you want the horrific particulars see “A Hanging in Lumpkin County” in Wilson and Noe, The Civil War in Appalachia, Univ. of Tennessee Press

I live in Lumpkin County - grew up here, moved away and chose to return after retirement.

It’s clear you’re not acquainted with Dahlonega or north Georgia. Given that, please try to avoid spreading misinformation based on stereotypes. It’s hard enough being a ‘blue dot in a sea of red’ without getting dumped on by people who don’t understand the community or its history. There may not be a lot of progressives locally but we’re not quiet!

I lived in Fannin for over thirty years: there are, in fact, liberals and Democrats whatever the stereotypes in almost all rural counties.

In my fantasy donald is sitting in his cell…
Alone
No phone
No TV
No adoring crowd
No ice cream
No one
Just him
Alone

Yes, thanks for giving the history. Lumpkin County merely bought into Trump’s scheme for 2020. I suspect they were always pro-mail-in voting.

As always, their problem was not with the what but with the who.
