You get the feeling this guy had either lost his job and/or his wife and wanted to go out in a blaze of glory rather than deal with it. Reminds me of the men who jumped out of stock exchange windows on Black Friday. At least he didn’t take others with him.
Everyday is going to be Black Friday in America for Republicans, if Trump doesn’t sign some sort of stimulus bill soon. It’s McConnell’s problem and he just thinks he can brazen his way through this crisis like he has others.
No, Mitch. You are going to be left holding the bag. Trump has left the building. There will be real life ramifications for the GOP Senate just like there will be for those thrown out in the cold during this pandemic without any compassion from the sainted Conservative Movement.

Not at all…! I wouldn’t say “It was nothing more than” that. I would agree it was a major stress test, however. For the most part it has held together. The system’s checks and balances have succeeded in keeping the Dotardly Despot at bay, or so it seems.
I think we’re going to need to revisit the ‘pardon power’ of the president at some point. At the very least, give the details better definition and some constraints, i.e. no ‘self pardons’, no ‘pre-emptive’ pardons (which to me are ‘grants of immunity’, and very different from pardons or clemency). I also feel a president mustn’t have “whatever whim or fancy” as his reason for a pardon. It still must follow some legal purpose, to right a miscarriage of justice for example, and not simple word-dressing, but a display of actual cause.
Trump executed a man who committed a crime 40 years ago as a teenager, a case deserving of at least a stay of execution. Trump deferred and he died. Oh, but 4 very guilty war criminals, and a few extremely guilty cronies get to walk free?
When the pardon is, in itself, a crass miscarriage of justice, an absolute corruption of it in fact, then it’s time to put a serious lid on the power. Trump has exposed that, at least.
