Things have gone totally pear-shaped and for Trump it is freakout overkill time.
Cheney & Co. purposefully leaked information to the media including NYT that was then breathlessly reported with credibility. NYT was played badly then (we haven’t forgotten what you did, Judith Miller) and seems to be being played again by Trumpers.

From the article: " …performances by Emmy award-winning comedian Jay Leno and the SHAPE International Band, the musical representative of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and Supreme Allied Commander Europe." So Leno was just schmoozing and doing stand-up for a little pocket change. It’s hard being a has-been.

Revenge is a possibility but I tend to think people are overreacting.
The information is out, too late to make any difference if they do something to the whistle blower.
Plus which if the whistle blower turned up dead it would be an even bigger mess for Trump.
Maybe I’m naive but I think people have been watching too many spy movies.

I agree. They are so not having anyone killed. They aren’t Putin - any of them. They don’t have Putin’s power or his sangfroid. Not one of them has the stones. And it would be a total waste at this point anyway - the whistle done got blowed.

I won’t say you’re wrong about that, but early yesterday I heard on NPR that the intelligence community is worried about exposure of the identity of the whistleblower for the very real reason that, at the very least a career would be ended if the identity is exposed and, at the worst the person and their family would be endangered.
Indeed. But the NYT wasn’t “played.” They were COMPLICIT. And they’re knowingly and intentionally and demonstrably doing it again. They know who their sources are. They know damn fucking well.
I think there’s some genuine overreaction going on in this thread. The Whistleblower will be testifying. He’s going to be doxxed regardless, and of course will be provided protection. All of these things would have happened regardless of the NYTimes publishing the fact the whistleblower is a member of the Intelligence Community at the CIA. I think they ran with this, not because they were “duped” by the White House, but rather, to lend gravitas to just how important all of this is.
