President Trump tried to enlist then-national security adviser John Bolton in the Ukraine pressure campaign in early May, according to a manuscript of Bolton’s forthcoming book reported by the New York Times.
Cipollone should be disbarred. It’s like the guy driving the getaway car is serving as the defense attorney and providing a fake alibi for the defendant who murdered a bank teller.
If Bolton had a shred of integrity and loyalty to the U.S. Constitution, he would call a press conference, have himself put under oath by a respected judge or authority, spill the revelations and take questions. Big IF.
There have been a lot of time during the last three years where I’ve said, “that dude should be disbarred”, but man, this one is such a clear call. Your analogy is a good one.
Attorneys aren’t even allowed to serve as counsel in a car accident case in which they might have to serve as a witness, forget about something of this magnitude.
Former Senator Claire Mccaskell (MO) just said if the story is true of Cippolone being in the room then defending the President in impeachment he could be disbarred.we’ll see.
He and Barr have ignored what their jobs are supposed to be and have appointed themselves Trump’s personal lawyers, helping him to cover up his crimes.
The truth will eventually be revealed so if Bolton is “teasing” sales of his book, it makes him more of a douche bag than ever. Self-enrichment is corruptly Trumpian and if he is doing the same thing, he is in the same league as DJT, i.e. without ethics and morals.
More evidence, if more were needed, that Trump — despite all the big-baby, scatterbrained-psycho talk – is perfectly capable of managing an organized long-running conspiracy when it involves his own interests directly.
Also visible is his standard m.o. of getting all of his agents to self-incriminate, in this case apparently involving everyone from Nunes and Graham to Barr, Pompeo, and Mulvaney in the scheme, while laying a trap for Bolton in the process.
I think it is unlikely that Bolton is trying to tease book sales. I don’t believe I’ve ever agreed with Bolton on policy decisions. But I think he is both very smart (scholarship kid at Yale both undergrad and law) and full of moral rectitude (yeah, hard to say about warmongers, but he does think he is protecting his country – he’s just wrong). I read a publishing type in the past couple of days who pointed out that high profile folks like Bolton make their money on the front end. They are paid a lot (often millions) by publishers who bet the book will sell. If it doesn’t, the loss falls on the publisher not on the author.
