On Wednesday, in a filing advocating for his release from detention, Caldwell asserted that the chatter about QRFs “was nothing but a contingency plan hatched up by retired military guys strategizing in the event that Antifa launched a coordinated attack against rally-goers.”
Is an interesting defense as well. He’s apparently arguing that he and his pals have the right to violate local law and use deadly force if they perceive a threat from counterprotestors. A little like planning to make citizens’ arrest of a sitting governor.

Made me laugh and reminded me of an old joke.

I now recall all the threats of civil war prior to second impeachment, ridiculous then and especially ridiculous now. These aren’t civil warriors in a mass movement ready and able to split the country in two, these are angry racist misfits who belong in jail.

To his credit, WW II General George Patton was famously quoted as saying:
“No dumb bastard ever won a war by going out and dying for his country. He won it by making some other dumb bastard die for his country.”

Part of it is luck that we’re beset with dummies. But part of it is also the magic of America. I use that term with as much objectivity as I can muster. America is not the chosen country of the planet, but it does an awesome balancing act between individuality and “good of the country”.
The fact that we have such dullards who do a kind-of-sort-of overthrow of the government speaks to how the multi-cultural dynamic of America seeps into every nook and cranny of those who have lived here, or who have thrown in their lot with the concept of America. No matter what they might want on their own.
Even Trump pulled up short when it came time to seize power for a 2nd term. Even that dullard knows he can’t pull it off, all he can do is make noise.
