Nah, his dad Mario was fairly pedestrian. He had pretty much the same staffers for years. He’d stay in the governors mansion or go to his Queens house and rarely traveled out of the state. Oh and he had some beef with the film The Godfather because how it portrayed Italian Americans. He finally saw it later in life.
I concur, but as a lawyer you have to have some sort of defense for your client.
Now it’s just a question of how long till he’s out of office. Does he Resign, get Impeached, or fill out his term?
What is certain is that you cannot be a leader in the party that aligns with “Me Too” and be a sexual harasser. Any more, I don’t think you can hold office anywhere at any level of serious responsibility. That’s what happens when you alienate half the voting population.
We MUST investigate and understand nuances of actions and words. I was consistent in speaking out strongly for women against the sexist and misogynist dog whistles toward women in general and specifically toward Hillary Clinton and other women stirring fear coming from both political extremes and the decidedly sexist media.
However, Cuomo deserves an investigation just as Franken deserved one he didn’t get. I think we can all agree that a comedian using sexism (once more tolerated than currently) is quite different than a boss using his power over his or her employees to impose sexual harassment or worse.
I don’t know if Cuomo is guilty of anything. He may be. Guilt must be determined by his actions in each incident, not the number of times something occurs. He deserves an investigation. I wish the press would step back and take a more measured less sensational approach to reporting and headlines.
I’ve had some confrontations with other male colleagues that got ugly.
Maybe it was my approach: “WTF are you doing?”
Umm, you do realize that you are now stating that women need to police men’s actions and words? That instead of everyone realizing that this behavior is not appropriate in the workplace you want the victim to do something, a victim whose job performance or promotions will be determined by the harasser.
Your last sentence is reminding me of the reporting on Sarah Everard, and the police telling woman don’t walk alone at night.
And that reminds me a crime spree in 1970s England where the response to women getting attacked was a curfew…for women. The backlash was such that women were demanding it’s the men who should stay home after dark as it was a man doing the attacking.
Fifty years and it’s the same old shit.
Enough! I really liked Cuomo and I did not want to accept the charges against him. The charges by employees who worked with him convey that they worked in a highly charged sexual atmosphere. I know what’s that like. It’s not always something you can call the police, his boss, your lawyer about because as Cuomo can say “nothing ever happened.” It’s the “highly charged sexual atmosphere” that the boss creates. Can’t put him in jail for that. But they can expose him.
I have always read Cuomo as an asshole, even when people were celebrating his COVID talks. None of this surprises me. I am glad that this will remove him from the list of possible future presidents.
Seawater?
No, no, no, no. Just saying I’ve seen women put these jerks in their place. That’s all. Nuthin’ more. I should have added that mgmt needs to discipline these guys, but that assumes they’re not complicit.
In the space of about 3 months, I fired a guy for harassment and had a voice in the firing of two other jerks. It was great hygiene. in futures, spare me the lectures. I’ve been to the mountain.
Oh, and BTW, do you think women are the only ones to suffer abuse in the workplace? There is no gender discrimination with abuse. It may differ qualitatively with men, but not in intensity.
Oh, I “remind you of” [some morons]? Take a hike.
To “police” actions is a poor choice of words, friend. I am female. I had a boss/bosses who asked questions about my personal life. Guess what? I deflected. I had a boss who looked at my breasts. Guess what? I asked him ‘what are you looking at’ and embarrassed him. If these women want to be considered equals in the workplace, and not VICTIMS, they need to start by questioning behavior in the moment. We are not shrinking violets, ladies. Now, groping? That’s a whole different thing.
If Cuomo is found guilty of groping, and it is not just a he-said-she-said, then he should be impeached and convicted. He is not likely to resign.
I worked with a really wonderful guy, smart, really well educated (in the US) who came here from China. He was a top-notch PhD statistician. He had the office next to mine. He worked for a big, hot dog doctor who was committing fraud with his grants and grant money. My friend would come to me (because I was practically everybody’s friend and mother) and I’d listen and empathize and talk to him about protecting himself. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when he got berated, in front of many of us, for being in the bathroom, leaving his pager in his office. His asshole boss was having a fit because he paged his statistician and he did not respond, and "what if he had a statistical emergency? (I’ll never forget it–those were his exact words). I blew up. I yelled at the “Associate Prof” who was up for tenure to back off and shut up. I went to he Doc’s executive assistant, who had started keeping proof of paying for expenses from one federal grant to another and we went to HR and to the Chair of the Dept.
Long story short, My friend was protected and was getting HR help finding another job, where he prospered, the asshole Doc was supported in quietly leaving and transferring some of his grants to a a new position (in Texas, of all places), his executive secretary got placed in a new position with a great young faculty member. Me? I got riffed (reduction in forced) with less than two years to retirement.
Lesson: Abuse is abuse – in government, politics, business, academia, families, and everywhere there are powerful, greedy, and immoral people controlling others under them. Whether it is male on female (or the reverse), sexual, racist, ageist, or just plain classism, it happens all the time. And has always happened in this country. No surprise.
I’m not a bit sorry I did what I did. We all need to monitor and address inequities and wrongs, no matter who is doing the harm. To the best of our ability. That’s it.
Seems Cuomo sexualizing encounters with female reporters was generally known. Makes me wonder what brother Chris had heard and whether we’ll have a cozy, teasing televised discussion on this matter.
I’ve had spittle on my glasses from encounters in which I could see my boss’s uvula. He was always drunk after lunch.
Data support that 2/3 bosses are incompetent, abusive or both, all over.
I’m not any kind of brawler. I hate that behavior, though as a college student I had about 250 hrs of unarmed combat. I nearly came to blows with one boss. They would have carried him out on a gurney.
I learned years ago that if you treat all your subordinates decently – men and women – they will defend you.
ETA: I should have added: They will drop a dime on a bad boss – sometimes – and hope they don’t get gaslighted. They will also betray each other. In the Le Carre’ novels, gotta watch out for the guy in the next office.
“Handsy” is the word they use.
