NYT Adds Lengthy Editors’ Note To Bret Stephens’ Latest Terrible Column

That’s a Lott to ask for.

Yet another reason I pass on NYT. This guy cites one source for his screed, but then its,
“Gee wiz, we don’t know how that one racist source got past us!”

NYT sure lives up to its name, The Gray Lady.

The NYT, much like Donald Trump, appears to be outsourcing simple background checks to the general public. Not a good look for the entity that considers itself the “paper of record”.

This is everything wrong with conservatives. They’re convinced that reality itself is a hoax so they continue to push absurd myths from their childhood and honestly think the only reason they get in trouble is the specific words they use. So they keep looking for the magical incantation that allows them to explain that racism is rational without looking like a racist.

And it’s like…dude. It’s right there. Your entire argument is that we should all be racists because you really CAN judge people based on their physical appearance. But just saying it out loud makes it sound obviously bad, so they say everything EXCEPT the main thesis and insist that we’re the villains for connecting the dots they want us to connect. And the NY Times plays along because they’re conformists who think it makes them centrists every time conservatives insult them.

Nice to know we’ve come so far in the last 100 years.

What was this column, a New Year’s salute to the anniversary of eugenics?

Nevertheless, The Times allowed Stephens’ dog whistle to be blown. It’s not something that can be “unheard”.

I stopped reading the NYT op/eds a decade ago after Bob Herbert wrote TWO ill-informed columns plugging the ill-advised airport proposal in Peotone, IL.

Looks like things haven’t changed.

Did Stephens’ silly screed cite any serious peer reviewed science? If not why did the NYT publish it?

Even though I live in NYC area I have no particular feelings about the NYT except that it has a lousy sports section. But I have always wondered why they feel that they must carry columns in the name of balance by so called conservatives. They should hire people who can look at the world and make sense of it in print without a of a pre-packaged bias one way or the other.

Think of how hard it must be to find a right wing pro Trump oped writer that can put a intellectual veneer on Republican thought.

Washington Post is having similar difficulty. Gerson, Will, and Rubin are anti Trump, leaving them with the lightweights Theissen and Rogers.

Let me get back to you after I catch up on my NK columns. Honestly, I haven’t read him for years. I could be mistaken, but I believe he has been called out for howlers from time to time.

Stephen’s wrote a column a while back making the conservative case for immigration, and for supporting undocumented immigrants. It was a moving piece, although in retrospect it was more of the same faux contrarianism that is behind all of his columns, the smugness that comes from saying controversial things.

Because of the frequent attacks by Stephens on the administration and the Republican party, I have been reluctant to attack him too much. After all, compared to the numerous Trump apologists at the Post, he is a brilliant voice. But this very brilliance, combined with a Glee for saying contraversial things, and a laziness for research, has produced somthing much worse than the Hugh Hewitts of the world. It has produced a voice who makes the anti-semitism of today’s discourse much worse.

“At its best, the West can honor the principle of racial, religious and ethnic pluralism not as a grudging accommodation to strangers but as an affirmation of its own diverse identity

Will Israel be able honor this principle when the demographic time bomb hits and the number Israeli muslims outnumber the number of Israeli jews?
