New York Times editor Jill Abramson on Friday updated the newsroom on the roughly 30 buyouts the paper is seeking. The voluntary buyout deadline is Jan. 24, after which the paper could start laying people off. In her memo, obtained by New York Magazine, Abramson stressed that the paper is already changing the newsroom’s “traditional architecture,” including leadership and editor roles. She said the paper won’t know until Jan. 24 how many voluntary buyouts the paper will be able to accept. According to the report, the cuts are aimed at newsroom managers.
