It’s possible the point isn’t to persuade people of what the fake report actually claims so much as to “flood the zone with shit,” as Bannon said, to make people throw up their hands and give up trying to find or know the truth. It’s a well-known authoritarian technique to make people passive and unwilling to believe or act on what they hear. You probably know that but as I said it’s certainly possible here.
