‘Nothing Works’: Hospitals Race To Train More Docs To Operate Ventilators | Talking Points Memo

With COVID-19, it’s one step forward, two steps back.

That’s what doctors battling the devastating viral lung infection on its frontlines are saying, as hospitals face shortages not only in ventilators to keep patients alive, but in doctors to operate them.

Shut up and stay away."

Why are they worried about ventilators when the only thing they need is hydroxychloroquine?

O/T, sort of:

"Mr. Trump, I served with Queen Elizabeth. I knew Queen Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth was a friend of mine. Donnie, you are no Queen Elizabeth."

Just as we’re scouring the globe for PPE and ventilators, we should do so for trained personnel.

If the military, or other parts of the country have specialists they can currently spare or even other countries that have already bent the curve, we should accept their assistance, temporarily bending any licensure requirements.

And then move personnel, if possible, to where the need is.

Much can be, and probably will be written about how the disingenuous, deceitful, and ultimately harmful propaganda surrounding the Brexit campaign was dusted off and reused for the Coronavirus pandemic, including by Johnson himself.

But now is not the time for that. I can only wish him the best and keep him in my thoughts. At least, we know he is receiving the best possible care as the Prime Minister.

I’m just wondering how they got so lucky.

You’re a bigger man than me.

Any gov’t, if they had any wiggle room at all, would not want to announce such news in real time. I must assume that we’re hearing about this because it’s serious.

I do hope that Boris recovers and can use the experience to convince folks on the right to listen to facts, science and reason. He did a lot to mess things up on this virus. I hope he can recover and do his part to fix it.

But by mentioning that, you put it out there, no?

A kind of infrastructure failure here, but symbolic. The “if it works, don’t fix it” (coz that would cost money) crowd will have spread much misery by the time this is all through.

Doubt we’ll hear about trump’s case unless he dies of it, he’ll just disappear from the press conferences one day.

Both, and frighteningly so.

Yeah, I think it will be a classic banana republic style cover up.

Even as the British government has undersold Johnson’s condition at every step, we can surmise his condition is deteriorating quite rapidly. It goes without saying this is quite serious and he’s at a critical juncture. Fortunately he has real doctors attending to him, and not social scientists.

Public appearances by every world leader, especially in authoritarian nations, bears watching at this point. Certainly can’t count on their governments to speak the truth.

The nice part being that the virus doesn’t particularly care about politics, it’ll drive on regardless. So that coverup won’t last very long.

Heck, Britain managed to try the coverup for about a whole 18 hours before it became bad enough they couldn’t cover it up anymore.

How many ways does it take for the Almighty to get through to us that Trump must be removed?
