Sulfate aerosols are created naturally by release of SO2 gas into the stratosphere by volcanic eruptions. This is what caused the global cooling that occurred for several months after the Tambora and Pinatubo volcano eruptions. :volcano:

OMG, what a thought. But anything goes with these nominations. At what point will a small band of Republican senators just recoil at the whole lot? Never?

What angers me just as much as the nominees themselves is that Trump’s announcing them, making claims about deals he’s already made (like the lie about his phone call with Mexico’s president), and holding court at M-A-L (Trudeau visiting him there, no less) as if he were already president. Eclipsing Biden as if he (Trump) really had been the rightful president for the last four years. If nothing else, he’s insulting the office of the presidency and, once again, the dignified, respectful transfer of power. Does that not matter to at least a few Repub senators?

Will he invite Biden and other Dems (like Jeffries and Schumer) to his inauguration? If he does, will Biden or any of them attend? He’s put them between a rock and a hard place if he does invite them.

That doesn’t seem fair. Macron is a strong supporter of Ukraine and NATO. He’ll have to deal with the U.S. one way or another.

The downside is that injecting more aerosols will have to be continued for hundreds to thousands of years. Even if we were to stop all CO2 emissions tomorrow it would take about 100 years to get back to preindustrial baseline for atmospheric CO2 concentration.

The residual atmospheric CO2 will continue to insulate the earth like a winter’s blanket on a hot night in July.

Rockwell has grandchildren and probably great grandchildren (maybe great great), but I’m not aware that any of them makes a great deal of their relationship to him in a public way. But the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA, which owns the painting, might respond. Or they’ll ignore it. Probably better that they ignore it.

The painting, “Freedom from Want” (part of the Four Freedoms series), has been parodied and satirized many times (just google), so JD probably thinks himself very clever to have joined the cognoscenti while also sending a message to less knowledgeable Americans who might still have some awareness of the original, or its parodies, that he and Trump will deliver on both the economic and family values fronts. What’s weird (hello, Tim Walz – we haven’t forgotten you!) is Vance’s putting his head on top of the old (still vigorous) woman’s body. But maybe there’s a message there to his Thielist supporters: Trump is the patriarch in the picture, but all the real work in preparing the dinner has been done by the woman/Vance.

Also, too. At the time (the painting was on a Life Magazine cover in 1943), Europeans aware of the cover responded poorly. Most were going hungry, and this image of American abundance did not sit well with them. Rockwell intended the painting as an ideal, not the way people in Arlington, VT (where he was then living and whence his models) were usually eating during WW II. (I know. My cousins’ father – no kin of mine but married to my mother’s cousin – was an artist who worked for Rockwell then, and my cousins modeled for him, though not in this painting.)

And that was before the Kash Patel appointment. America’s time in the barrel begins.

The Russians speak of the “power ministries,” the departments that have significant legal and coercive capacity. In the United States, those include the Justice Department, the Defense Department, the FBI, and the intelligence community. Trump has now named sycophants to lead each of these institutions, a move that eliminates important obstacles to his frequently expressed desires to use the armed forces, federal law-enforcement agents, intelligence professionals, and government lawyers as he chooses, unbounded by the law or the Constitution.

If you want to assemble the infrastructure of an authoritarian government, this is how you do it.

I’m sure he’s getting help making these appointments. TSF is not smart enough to decapitate the government but someone surely has figured out which sycophants to plant where to get the job done. TSF is happy as long as “his people” get a post and he gets to grift and preen.

I’m sure he’s getting input from the innermost inner circle types like Stephen Miller on these appointments, and JD and Musk have his ear too. But I think it’s clear that the first, and maybe the only qualification is absolute loyalty and obedience to what Trump wants.

He wants no friction in the administration, at least as far as following his wishes goes. I don’t think there’s much of a plan here. I mean sure, Musk and others want to dismantle their favorite targets, but the “how” isn’t clear yet. Trump rules by chaos, so he’ll try things on a whim and see if it works.

The only silver lining is that while these clowns have loyalty to Trump, they have none towards each other. The infighting will be epic. It’s small consolation for the damage they’ll do, but I’ll enjoy watching it anyway.

All of these appointments are simply a giant “fuck you” to the rest of us. Couldn’t care less about anything else. Also, Charles Kushner now enables Jared and Ivanka to swan around Paris so they don’t have to be tainted.

And not even a whimper from an elected Democrat. Let’s be “civil”. Christ.

That’s not true. Warren and others have been slamming the nominations, it’s just not getting as much coverage because Dems are now in the minority.

Here’s one example, Tammy Duckworth slamming the Hegseth nom. It carries some weight, coming from a retired Lieutenant Colonel who lost her legs in Iraq piloting a helicopter that was hit by an RPG.

Duckworth rips into Hegseth: ‘He is unqualified for the position’

“Our military could not go to war without its 223,000 women who serve in uniform,” Duckworth said about his comments that women should not serve in combat.

Help from project 25 people I expect. But Kash Patel at FBI? So much for nonpolitical decisions. Plus Director Wray still has 3 years left in his 10 year term so he might tell Kash to buzz off.
