In MAGA world, fealty is required, not bravery.

“Numerous GOP members have indicated to Trump and his team that they believe Gaetz has little chance of being confirmed, according to multiple Senate Republican and Trump world sources,” Playbook reported. “And they’re privately hoping Trump doesn’t make them walk the plank.”

What a bunch of weenies. Not a vertebrae, much less a backbone, in the whole group.

ETA. Temporary apology to Markwayne Mullin. We’ll see how long he holds up.

Something I do not understand. If Trump has yet to sign the ethics pledge for the Transition, why on earth do we not see this reported on? Also, why would the Democrats agree to do anything with Trump’s transition team?

Trump is preparing to Jan6 (i.e. thumb up his butt) his way through a NATO crisis, if Putin can even wait that long…

Every article in MM is making me puke. That’s not to criticize MM. There just is no good news. Our world is centered around all the damage the orange menace may cause.

" she witnessed President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general having sex with a 17-year-old at a party,"

Ewww. Usually, sex is conducted privately. That said, even if the Gaetz Ethics Report somehow leaks, I am sure our now well-behaved and ethical infotainment media will not cover it, much less publish it. Not for a Republican! It simply isn’t done!

“To be as clear as I can be, the second Trump administration with Elon Musk embedded within it represents the most direct and sustained threat to the First Amendment and the freedom of the press any of us will ever experience.”–Nilay Patel, editor-in-chief of The Verge

I have this fantasy of Biden declaring this among several things, a national emergency, imposing martial law and cleaning house. Troops in the street, Presidential immunity, release every bit of information the government has on Trump Co. and associates. Detention camps and shuffling the perps off to an undisclosed location in the arctic. Then we sort it all out and get back to normal business finally.

Oh well day dreaming. But if MAGA can think of things like this, why can’t we?

Trump … [is] pushing ahead with the nomination anyway for strategic reasons: “He is making calls on Mr. Gaetz’s behalf, and he remains confident that even if Mr. Gaetz does not make it, the standard for an acceptable candidate will have shifted so much that the Senate may simply approve his other nominees who have appalled much of Washington.”

So, he’s trying to shove the Overton window out of the corner of the building and into the street below?
Good to know that TSF’s partisans (at least) think we should know that this is deliberate.

The way Donald Trump sees it, his demand that Senate Republicans either humiliate themselves by confirming his abominable choice of Matt Gaetz for attorney general or walk the plank in rejecting the nomination is a win-win either way.

“He is making calls on Mr. Gaetz’s behalf, and he remains confident that even if Mr. Gaetz does not make it, the standard for an acceptable candidate will have shifted so much that the Senate may simply approve his other nominees who have appalled much of Washington.”

I agree with the additional statement here that, if they approve Gaetz, everyone else gets passed as well. GQP anyone has never had the spine to stand up to the President-Elect, even before he was the President-Elect, because he has so much power among the wealthy and connected in the country. One false move and they can look at being primaried with 10x the backing going to the opponent.

And most Americans aren’t paying enough attention to care. They really just don’t care. It’s truly amazing.

With Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE) set to become the first openly transgender member of Congress, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) plans to introduce a resolution banning transgender women from women’s bathrooms in the Capitol. “Asked if she planned to talk to McBride, Mace said: ‘No, Sarah McBride doesn’t get a say,'” Politico reported.

This is a no-win situation for everybody. Nancy gets publicity for being trans-phobic, which suits her constituents just fine, and McBride has to use a port-a-potty if they have any business in the chamber.

This is what we’ve devolved to.

“Top Justice Department antitrust officials have decided to ask a judge to force Alphabet Inc.’s Google to sell off its Chrome browser in what would be a historic crackdown on one of the world’s biggest tech companies.”–Bloomberg

Depending on how obsequious Google is to the President-Elect, the P-E will overturn this early next year, should it go through.

I am still going to hope that because these cabinet appointments are so incredibly unqualified and incompetent they will eat each other’s faces for the next four years and get nothing done.

Well, for one thing, the President-Elect thinks ‘ethics’ is in a foreign language that he failed to learn throughout his life. That he’s already receiving security briefings is more fox-in-the-henhouse than we should be willing to accept, but I’m not sure what can be done about any of this at this point.

I’ve seen media reports on the delay, it isn’t being completely ignored.

If this is one of those “laws” that are actually more of a tradition because there is no enforcement mechanism, then he might just ignore it and enter the WH without an ethics pledge. It would be the most Trumpy thing to do, which is how he’s been operating so far.

I was thinking about emailing my two Republican Senators, Hawley-Christian Nationalist, and Schmitt-devout Catholic(?), how their vote will determine if they have standing in taking the moral ground on any issue in the future.
I hope to get some good lawyerly gobbledygook response.

I remember how the previous trump administration not only refused to fund the transition as per the law, but they deliberately hid all intelligence and other basic information from the incoming administration, then on inauguration day, fired the butler and locked the front door.

Why is the Biden administration kissing the ass of that fucking traitor? Why are they helping him destroy our country? Why does he get even one atom of the benefit of a doubt? We know exactly who he is and which foreign dictator runs him. Resist!!!
