Nintendo Announces New ‘Wii U’ Console For Nov. 18 Release | Talking Points Memo

Nintendo on Thursday announced a new videogame console, the Wii U, which will retail in the U.S. beginning November 19 at two price points: $299 for a basic set and $349 for a deluxe set, NBC News reported. The Wii U, which succeeds Nintendo’s hit 2006 console the Wii, includes a controller with its own built-in second screen, called the “GamePad.” The console is Nintendo’s attempt to reinvigorate the home console gaming market and its own declining fortunes, which have flagged in recent years with the rise of mobile gaming on smartphones.
