Federal and local prosecutors in New York are looking into whether Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) has committed any financial crimes or broken the law when lying about his resume before the November election.
Here is my late best beastie. He moved onto the big couch in the sky back in June, aged about 18 years. I miss him every day. If this were bacon in a pan, the other cat’s dish, or even a trash can, he would be first!
Though it’s not unlikely that Santos committed one or more crimes that might get him sentenced to prison, the real question is whether McCarthy will let him keep his seat in Congress while he’s in prison.
If he 's indicted on one or more crimes, he can probably drag out the court case for at least a year. He would still serve at least half his term in DC and out of prison.
It would get interesting after that, if he’s convicted and loses all appeals. McCarthy (or whoever the Speaker is) and the other R’s might agree to a 2/3 vote to kick him out of Congress, knowing that a special election to replace him will also take some time, maybe overlapping the 2024 election date.
“As a Navy man who campaigned on restoring accountability and integrity to our government, I believe a full investigation by the House Ethics Committee and, if necessary, law enforcement, is required,” Nick LaLota
Santos probably doesn’t appreciate a fellow Navy man going after him, doesn’t his service in the Seals count for anything?
the U.S. attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York has opened an inquiry, reportedly focused on his finances. … they’re looking specifically at his publicly available financial data.
Why do they need a press release to do this? Why not detail a couple folks to quietly dig through the “publicly available financial data” and see if there’s anything there?
Straight out of the GOP evangelical playbook. Admit your sins on Sunday and all is forgiven. Then commit more of the same on the way out the door, rinse, repeat.
Probably because every media outlet and its brother has been sending out requests for comment, so they decided to put out a blanket statement to try to quell the queries.
