As has been said many times, what is today’s base of the Republican Party created Donald Trump and not the other way around. Or to put another way, Trump is merely selling the average GOP voter what he or she wants to buy. That is costing the base GOP voter a significant price is no more than that base is willing to pay.

Furthermore, this comment from the article about Iowa from TPM is absolutely wrong.

the number of Republicans who picked other candidates (a combined roughly 48 percent) reveals the glaring weakness in his candidacy.

Primaries is the time for purity, General elections you mostly just have to just go with whichever candidate you agree with more, or in the alternative and is mostly the case, you disagree with less.

That Trump won 52% of the vote in a contested primary means for over half the voters in his Party Trump is the person who represents the purity, their most refined values and policies.

Add to it that a few days later two candidates that earned about 30% of the not Trump vote told their supporters they are supporting Trump and over 80% of GOP voters and their candidates in Iowa shows from the GOP voter perspective Trump is extremely strong within his Party.

It is often said that elections are about the future, in fact they are mostly about the present. That is voters decide on what they want NOW. Donald Trump is the present of the GOP and not because the GOP is in his clutches but rather because Trump is willing to advance what the base GOP voter wants and are willing to pay Trump for doing so similar to paying a TV repair man for fixing your TV.

She’s gonna lose by a wide margin and by midnight it’s over. She suspends her campaign and endorses Trump. She knows she’s toast in her own state and that’s it.

Not my fault… if I had my way donnie would answer for the 800,000 dead of covid on his watch who died due to trump’s fucking incompetence. It’s a long story but here is just one example. Trump in 2018 reassigned a bunch of epidemiologists around the world. Their job was to look for emerging diseases… like covid or sars-1 or MERS. There were teams in Bejing and in Wuhan, China. Trump’s statement as to why the teams were brought home? “They just stand around and collect their paychecks”. That was the extent of donnie’s undersranding of what a scientist does.

The Owl Who Was God

Once upon a starless midnight there was an owl who sat on the branch of an oak tree. Two ground moles tried to slip quietly by, unnoticed. “You!” said the owl. “Who?” they quavered, in fear and astonishment, for they could not believe it was possible for anyone to see them in that thick darkness. “You two!” said the owl. The moles hurried away and told the other creatures of the field and forest that the owl was the greatest and wisest of all animals because he could see in the dark and because he could answer any question. "I’ll see about that, "said a secretary bird, and he called on the owl one night when it was again very dark. “How many claws am I holding up?” said the secretary bird. “Two,” said the owl, and that was right. “Can you give me another expression for ‘that is to say’ or ‘namely’?” asked the secretary bird. “To wit,” said the owl. “Why does the lover call on his love?” “To woo,” said the owl.
The secretary bird hastened back to the other creatures and reported that the owl indeed was the greatest and wisest animal in the world because he could see in the dark and because he could answer any question. “Can he see in the daytime, too?” asked a red fox? “Yes,” answered a dormouse and a French poodle. “Can he see in the daytime, too?” All the other creatures laughed loudly at this silly question, and they set upon the red fox and his friends and drove them out of the region. They sent a messenger to the owl and asked him to be their leader.

When the owl appeared among the animals it was high noon and the sun was shining brightly. He walked very slowly, which gave him an appearance of great dignity, and he peered about him with large, staring eyes, which gave him an air of tremendous importance. “He’s God!” screamed a Plymouth rock hen. And the others took up the cry “He’s God!” So they followed him wherever he went and when he bumped into things they began to bump into things, too. Finally he came to a concrete highway and he started up the middle of it and all the other creatures followed him. Presently a hawk, who was acting as outrider, observed a truck coming toward them at fifty miles an hour, and he reported to the secretary bird and the secretary bird reported to the owl. “There’s danger ahead,” said the secretary bird. “To wit?” said the owl. The secretary bird told him. “Aren’t you afraid?” he asked. “Who?” said the owl calmly, for he could not see the truck. “He’s God!” cried all the creatures again, and they were still crying “He’s God” when the truck hit them and ran them down. Some of the animals were merely injured, but most of them, including the owl, were killed.

True.

And that said, those voters did not decide on their preferences in a vacuum. GOP leadership built their party over a long period of time by convincing their voters to buy what they are selling. Their “policies” are a fraud based on an environment of cultivated misinformation from which GOP politicians now cannot escape.

So of course Haley and Sununu will bend a knee and be ritually thrashed by Donald Trump after this is done. And should they lift a finger in their defense the GOP, voters and politicians, will eject them from the party faster than a fighter pilot leaving a damaged plane.

No, silly. He’s Merrick Garland’s fault, because he didn’t slap cuffs (or his necktie, like J. Edgar Hoover with Alvin Karpis) on him the day he was nominated, and frog-march him off to Gitmo.

With DeSantis, Trump dredged the gutter, suggesting that he’s a pedophile, questioning his sexuality and making endless fun of his stature and shoe choice. None of that stopped DeSantis from endorsing Trump as he dropped out on Sunday.

Everyone realizes that DeSantis is term limited. He doesn’t have a clear path to his next elected position for at least a couple of years. There is a really good chance that Trump will die or forget before he runs again. That means he is bowing to Trump when it doesn’t really matter, unless he has been directed to kneel by someone with real power over him. He has to be some kind of real wuss to bow to Trump now.

They are all running as the true Trumpian candidate after Trump kicks the bucket. If you think the Republican Party is a sh*tshow now, just wait till Trump passes and you have hundreds running as the ‘true successors’ of Trump. It’ll make Game of Thrones look like a children’s book.
