New Evidence Shows Just How Badly One Republican Senator Beclowned Himself in the Jack Smith Hearing

TPM has found fairly definitive evidence proving Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO) misread text messages when he attempted to corner former special counsel Jack Smith during a congressional hearing on Tuesday.  Schmitt used his time to present an elaborate conspiracy theory based on the idea that text messages showed Smith was at an Atlanta Hawks basketball…

Without a doubt, a case of classic projection when Schmitt calls Smith a “dirtbag.” We know who the dirtbag is here, just as we know which lawyer in the room makes John Neely Kennedy Esquire “throw up in his mouth a little.” Both are amoral, mendacious and shameless scumbags.

The familial diminutive of “Hawkeyes” is “Hawks.” Just like the “Texas Longhorns” may be affectionately referred to as the “Horns.”

Indeed, and beclowned is too nice and Sen. Kennedy did a bang up job of beclowning himself.

Is it ok to use the word retarded to describe this clown, I mean distinguished Senator?

I’m hoping that Schmitt will be known from now on as “Schmitt-bag” or perhaps just shitbag. What an embarrassment.

I miss a world where shame exists. Republican have no shame, remorse, or reflection, all they care about is social clips and Fox news mentions. I hope the next congress finds a way to appoint a special council and put Jack Smith in charge of holding all of these sleezebags to account.

Missouri prefers their senators to be illiterate - if Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) is any example.

The incompetence of the Republican members of Congress and their staffs is staggering and yet predictable.

Piece of Schmitt?

Little Schmitt?

Lying sack of Schmitt?

Schmitt for brains?

(The last may be accurate considering how badly he flubbed his
Perry Mason Moment.)

By the by Schmitt will never apoligize or admit he was wrong.

This is cynical brazenness, yet another GOP lie wearing track shoes while the truth sits and scratches itself, not incompetence & stupidity.

They knew all along it was an Iowa game in MD—they just didn’t care. They knew they’d get their confused looks from Smith, and their big Perry Mason moment, and that is all the MAGA faithful in the Fox-Sinclair media desert will ever see.

That’s why they’re unapologetically doubling down on the Charlie Kirk show and will continue to do so.

The stupid…. it hurts.

Someone might create a new meme with Caitlin Clark doing a Sophie Cunningham point and stare at Eric Schmitt, with Jack Smith pointing to the word Hawkeye. Someone’s just been fired from Schmitt’s staff.

How did a ‘man’ with Schmitt’s reading comprehension manage to complete law school? Somehow I don’t think meritocracy was a factor.

Sadly, this guy is still running around to the right wing echosphere with his tall tale of Smith’s ‘perjury under oath’.

It’s not getting out there that this was debunked in the hearing room by our own Senator Klobuchar.

The truth doesn’t matter to these people.

Wrong Hawkeye.

The only book he goes by Hawkeye in is Last of the Mohicans, but Natty Bumpo dies in Iowa in The Prairie (no spoilers, it was published two centuries ago). The books were hugely popular back in those days, and Iowans really embraced that their backwater little state had been part of the series.

Managing to duck under a low bar of stupidity, incompetence, and malice. A truly staggering trifecta.
