Can we schedule that for after Lewis Hamilton has locked in the win in Formula 1… There’s been some really good racing this season…

I suppose who can dodge the flying debris might be considered a sport…

One of many reasons I have little interest. Every year on opening day there 3 jet flyover of Fenway park. It rattled my windows and scares my dogs

People who claim to want sports to be “politics-free” are usually quite happy to see sports support status quo politics. To get sports to be politics-free, we’d have to end the national anthems, the military salutes, the fly-overs, the politicians throwing out first pitches, saluting the troops, etc.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

I’ve been boycotting ESPN since they decided to carry water for Roger Goodell and spend over a year pretending that he had evidence of a rules violation that never actually happened.

I love that scene haha

funny how Pitaro forgot his “no politics” rule when Clemson visited the White House for hamburders

of course, ESPN ignored the fact that nearly all of Clemson’s black players (especially those on the starting teams) boycotted the event. Maybe that’s their idea of “no politics” – pretend that the concerns of PoCs don’t exist… promoting the implication that Trump does nothing to create those concerns.

If Olbermann was still there, Pitaro would have to wear depends!

She sure took one out c_t . OUCH !

Stephen A Smith is never tolerable, in any formulation. He really is one of the most unmitigated assholes ever, on American television and sports talk radio. If you have not already done so, there is a two part documentary about basketball at Historically Black Colleges, the title of which is Black Magic. It is wonderful if you love basketball and watched the ABA and NBA in the 60s-70’s where there were some great stars from Historically Black Colleges (Bob Love, Willis Reed, many others featured). However, one of the disturbing parts of the documentary is how Stephen A. Smith, as a student reporter, exerted a most negative and destructive influence at his school. Even as a college student newspaper reporter, Stephen A. Smith was a self absorbed, destructive asshole.

“What we’ve said from day one is that we’re the place of record, we are covering the intersection of sports and politics,” Pitaro said. “That hasn’t changed. Why is it impossible to make the distinction between sports news and non-sports news?”

Pitaro reportedly met with Le Batard in New York Thursday and confirmed that the host will continue his employment at the network. However, a source told WaPo that if Le Batard feels the need to address a political issue in the future, he will “check with higher-ups.”

Some would call it censorship.

ESPN is cowardly on its own without any guidance or help, thank you very much.

American sports is a buffet of reactionaries. From the league as a whole, to owners, to networks to sports “journalists” (yes, the quotes are a justifiable perjorative here) to the bottom of the barrel (you know, the fans), there is nothing admirable, laudable, valuable or honorable about the entire racket. It’s theft, military fetishism, and mindlessness all the way through.

Otherwise, I’m fairly indifferent to this topic.

I have a hard time calling overtly racist chants and slogans “politics” - I prefer to call them racist.

Speaking as someone who has all the sports channels blocked and resents having to pay for them almost as much as the Bible-thumper channels:

No sane person believes this would have been an issue if the commentator have expressed views that agreed with the owners (same as the NFL kneeling thing).
