Onward Christian malefactors
Marching as to war
With the blood of children
Flowing ever more.
Homeschool, educational internships, valuable work experience, project-based learning…
They can always find a virtue-sounding cover for their evil plans.
Remember kids! Always have a handy water bottle and traffic cone!
Then when the CS gas canister lands near you put the cone over it then open the water bottle and put it upside down on the cone! This works every time!
And you can go to night school and study medicine.
The right wing plan, now partially implemented, to rescind the entirety of the legal protections afforded Americans proceeds apace. Abortion rights are disappearing, making it harder for minorities to gain access to national universities, gutting judicial oversight of voting restrictions, most kinds of extreme gerrymandering, banning books, destroying public education, bringing back child labor, arbitrarily overturning national regulations to prevent safety rules for work, water, climate, and food quality, ending reasonable restrictions on guns, and eviscerating the separation of church and state.
Unless the radical Supreme Court majority is stopped, our country will continue its devolution to 3rd world status.
There’s an available solution for the tight job market in these low wage, menial jobs the repukes was children to do . . . let in more adult immigrants.
They are willing and quite capable of doing these jobs. Allowing them in to fill the job market gaps would literally save more children.
It’s all about children, right? So why not do it? Because the U.S. children in low wage menial jobs can be trained to expect nothing more in their lifetimes. And what they want is a future workforce that expects nothing but is willing to do anything to survive.
Immigrants might want to do better at some point, and they might just leave if they can’t. Children are more mallable, especially if the come from families that expect little and need the money. And they’re less likely to leave. Perfect.
Damn, Jones. Too radge!
Ah yes, because we currently have record low unemployment, and a shortage of workers, let’s take that as the perfect time to drown our morals and ethics in the bathtub and bring back child labor.
That sounded insane to me, so I checked on it. The criteria appear to be a bit more lenient.
So I read that as requiring the names of both parents, but probably not if there’s only one recognized.
Put them slacker 10 yr olds to work running the fryers at KFC dammit!!! Then yell at ‘em fer not goin’ ta school!!!
What if the young person has only one parent? Sometimes a mom or dad dies… what then?
Edit to add…
I got my first passport when I was 18.
If a parent isn’t required to sign permission to obtain a work permit than that seems to apply to all parents, not just some parents. That’s the kicker. How does it increase parent rights to allow young minors to get jobs without parental consent? It makes no sense on its face.
That was basically my point – the rule appears to require disclosure, not sponsorship, of both parents, living or dead or divorced or whatnot. If there is only one parent named on the birth certificate, the (s) tends to indicate you only need to identify the one parent. And in the event that the kid was anonymously abandoned at the local firehouse, her legal guardian(s) can get the passport without any trouble.
At least, that’s how I read the FAQ. I am no expert in this field.
Let me guess… “this will stop immigrants from stealing our jobs and provide desperate parents who are out of work with a good alternative” (to working themselves?)…even though the same bozos working on this policy are mandating that parents find work to maintain their unemployment/welfare status. WTAF?
Listen, bozos, the purpose of child labor laws is to permit more actual adults who need work to find work while making children less exploitable by abusive would-be employers. The fact that some employers can’t find enough exploitable adult employees for their exploitive labor practices, doesn’t mean we should farm out the exploitive labor practices to minors!
No, not really. It’s pretty thorough, and the requirements can be difficult for some people. If one parent is not able to appear with valid ID during the application process, there are additional requirements and forms.
The reason for this is so that no one parent can take a child out of the country…or basically so they can not kidnap the child from the other parent.
Check #5 and #7 on that linked page.
5. Present ID
The parents or guardians must present one of the following identification documents (IDs) to the acceptance agent:
- Valid or expired, undamaged U.S. passport book or passport card
- In-state, fully valid driver’s license or enhanced driver’s license with photo
- Certificate of Naturalization
- Certificate of Citizenship
- Government employee ID (city, county, state, or federal)
- U.S. military or military dependent ID
- Current (valid) foreign passport
- Matricula Consular (Mexican Consular ID) - commonly used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
- U.S. Permanent Resident Card (Green Card) - commonly used by a parent of a U.S. citizen child applicant
- Trusted Traveler IDs (including valid Global Entry, FAST, SENTRI, and NEXUS cards)
- Enhanced Tribal Cards and Native American tribal photo IDs
- Note : you may be asked to present an additional ID when presenting one of these three documents: 1) In-state, fully-valid learner’s permit with photo, 2) In-state, fully-valid non-driver ID with photo, or 3) temporary driver’s license with photo.
If you cannot present one of the IDs above, or for more information, please see Identification.
Please note:
- Some states now issue digital ID documents (also known as mobile driver’s licenses or mobile IDs). We cannot accept these digital IDs when you apply for your child’s U.S. passport. You must continue to submit your physical, photo ID and a photocopy of the ID.
- If you present an out-of-state ID, you must present an additional ID.
7. Show Parental Consent
Both parents/guardians must authorize the issuance of the child’s passport. The best way to do this is for both parents/guardians to go with the child in person to apply for the passport.
If both parents cannot appear, there are a lot of ‘hoops’ to jump through…
I wasn’t trying to claim that there aren’t additional hoops to jump through if there aren’t two parents at the passport office, just making the point that it’s not a requirement. Non-nuclear families can still get their kids passports.
True.
For myself, and for my situation, I found it easiest to wait until my daughter turned 16 years old before getting her a passport. Plus by then, the passport was good for ten years instead of only five.
Rightwing conservatives and my ex are the only reason I believe in any existence after death. There has to be some retribution for being such evil, selfish bastards while on earth, and they clearly are not paying any price for it while alive…in fact reaping rewards for their lack of compassion and sense of fairness.
Who says that those kids need an education anyway? I thought the whole rightwing proposal was to keep 'em dumb so that they are more malliable to the “conservative” crap.
