I think all of us are in a state of disbelief that there’s a president who’s actually doing the job and we don’t recognize the contours of the job after so long having had nothing but governing tweets and disinformation.

I know. My comment was more about important issues getting reversed every 4 years depending on who is wielding the pen - like trans people in the military or DACA. Once trans people are allowed, it shouldn’t be reversed by something as transient as an executive order. I trust Biden to do the right thing, but the overall ping pong game with people’s lives is just no way to run a country.

Well, he did cancel the “declaration of emergency” that Trump used to steal money to pay for the wall. I don’t know if that was an EO or not.
By the way, I thought that was a brilliant move. Biden didn’t even have to review the wall-building contracts–just suddenly there’s no money to pay the contracts. Stops them dead. If the contractors complain that they have a contract and did work and aren’t getting paid, Biden can just say, “Sorry. Congress didn’t allocate any money for it. See if you can get them to. [sotto voce] And good luck with that.”

Ideally, and this is the constant optimist in me, even those who oppose progressive programs who might find their lives have improved in the course of four years will want to retain progressive leadership and not revert to pols who want to tamp down, remove, quash, all in the name of not running up debt which Rs do so much fretting over.
But if not having elections every four years where there’s a chance of changing course or playing ping pong, what’s the alternative.

Rice said Tuesday that the order would only apply to DOJ-run facilities, not those run by other federal agencies like Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “It’s silent on what may or may not transpire with ICE facilities,” she said.
I’m withholding judgement as Biden has only been President for a week. However, Biden needs to take some action soon on the ICE children in prison that was still occurring well into 2020.
