For the past few months, a sheriff who employs a distinctly old school style of policing has been clashing with a very new-school band of extremely online neo-Nazis.
I looked him up. His family is Mexican-American. He’s had one steady job in his life, working in the families Mexican restaurant in California. Otherwise, he’s been a rapper who raps about drugs, guns and the usual low level rap nonsense that’s out there.
OT but worth knowing… 66C is 150+F with humidity in the 60% range.
On Sunday, searing heat from the interior of Iran clashed with humid air flowing off the very warm waters of the Persian Gulf. At one point in the afternoon, the temperature at the Persian Gulf International Airport reached 40ºC (104ºF), with a relative humidity of 65% (the dew point was 32ºC/90ºF). This created an apparent temperature of 66.7ºC (152ºF) based on the Heat Index.
Chitwood is my sheriff. He has a high profile here in Volusia County that he really did not seek. He is trusted and his deputies have a solid reputation for fairness. He set that example. I hope he stays on the job for years and ultimately retires here.
You’re right. We should define free speech come completely. Also, I live in Mike Chitwood’s county. He is absolutely right in this crusade. The antisemitism that has arisen here in the last couple of years is horrific as well as disgusting. Time to stand up to the loud mouthed bullies.
Who the hell are these Americans for whom Jews constitute a sufficiently pervasive influence on daily existence that they are motivated to order their lives and identities around vilifying and opposing them?
I don’t (and could never) really “get” racism on a fundamental level. But there are instances where I can at least sort of decipher the underlying dynamic. In the case of anti-Semitism, I could do that with people tied to or living in the Middle East, where the existence of a Jewish state obviously is a top sociopolitical tension. But here in the US, I can’t even make it that far, so I always wonder what I am missing.
I got the link from a text and could not believe the quoted temperature so I had to look for myself. I live in a very hot climate here in Tucson but 150+ is way out of range for anywhere… even Death Valley.
