NC GOP Chair Refuses To Blame Trump For Capitol Attack After Censuring Burr | Talking Points Memo

Michael Whatley, the chair of the North Carolina Republican Party, on Tuesday shamelessly refused to blame former President Trump for inciting the mob behind the deadly Capitol insurrection last month, following the Senate’s acquittal of the former president for the second time.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://talkingpointsmemo.com/?p=1360355

“I think the responsibility lies with those people who broke the law, who attacked the Capitol, who attacked those police officers and caused the violence and mayhem, which is completely reprehensible and unjustifiable,” Whatley said.

Which is shorthand for the Clintons-Jews-Gays-Soros-BLM-Democrats-Librul junta. You know - the usual.

My guess is that this really isn’t going to end well for the NC GOP. To say ‘history will judge them poorly’ is an understatement. I suspect their actions will be judged quite poorly before this summer is over. As always, we’ll see.

Way to throw your own base under the bus.

What did you really expect them to do, as patriots, having been told that their Democracy was being stolen from them, that the election results were illegitimate, and that they needed to do whatever it took to stop the election being stolen?

Using that logic, we shouldn’t have blamed Bin Laden for 911 because all the people who actually committed the crime are dead.

I doubt Burr cares much about being censured. He is retiring and I have no doubt he will be financially secure in his dotage.

Pretzel logic at its finest!

For those scoring at home, this guy Whatley and the others like him want to put forth a justification defense – “the election was stolen from Trump” – while still condemning those who correctly understood Trump’s continuous invocation to “Stop the Steal” as a call to war (Latin: casus belli) and acted on it. They know that if they actually endorse violence, they lose any favorable public opinion from people on the fence. But if they don’t justify it, Trump is so obviously guilty that they lose the insurrectionists which are the core of their political power, such as it is now.

There were no hijackers onboard. Soros had already developed the remote drone capabilities required and installed them on the jets used.

So Michael Whatley’s day job is a pretzel maker?

“I don’t think this is a statement against Richard Burr as a senator,”

Umm…well, actually it is. That’s exactly and precisely what the censure of an acting Senator acting as a Senator during Senate activities does.

These folks simply cannot process unpunished condemnation of their new demi-god. The censures will continue until the morale improves.

I heard there were no people on the planes which never existed, and the twin towers and the Pentagon never existed either. The whole thing’s a hoax.
