Nathan half the thread would need to be sent there too.

I didn’t know that states had official books. And now I want to know why.

Maybe Tennessee should name the state’s best distillery?

Makes a hell of a lot more sense.

That floor speech was excellent and anyone unmoved and unpersuaded by it is seriously stunted and/or warped. But then we already knew that about these folks.

From the above, “Twenty, 25 years and somebody else wants to name it something again.” from Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver ®.

But is that not the point of democracy, to let the state leg or state elected body decide if they want to rename a building owned and operated by the state? First, all these buildings and military bases that are wanted my many to have their names changed or stripped at least of those named after those that were traitors and fought for the confederacy, those bases had other names at one point and then were re-named like many state and city buildings. Since there names have been changed then logic tells us it is possible and withing the legal authority to change the name again. So in reference to your comment either you (Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver ®) don’t support democracy, or you don’t support the legal process to rename spaces/parks/structures owned by the state or city, or you are racist and support racists. Which is it? Kind of silly question as we all know the GOP are the defenders of white christian society, whatever that is, and defenders of conservative power versus equal representation of its citizenry.

I didn’t either. I checked for my state of WA. I didn’t find an “official” book but there is an annual Washington State Book Award honoring 10 authors from WA for publications in the prior year. Seems a better way to do it, rather than implying some sweeping description of the entire population of a state with one book title. Let alone that one!

Interesting to confirm that the Tennessee Legislature only represents white people and still celebrates Traitors.

Maybe some day they will enter the 21st century.

It’s like how Obama was not allowed to be angry.

Yes, I remember, was in his first presidential debate (1st term I’m thinking) and the 1st question from Charlie Gibson ABC News, was from a woman wondering why Obama wasn’t wearing an American flag in his lapel. I laughed watching Obama keep his cool. Of course he handled it perfectly. It was impressive.

This is the same party that wanted to replace FDR on the dime with Reagan. And to rename shit for Reagan.

@zenicetus - well honoring local authors makes sense.
