I can’t think of anyone in this country’s history now that will go down in infamy to the depth of [Individual-1]. And that includes Russian moles and such. We actually will need a larger planet to accommodate the depth required to hit bottom at this point.
It could be he is lying about actually being a Democrat. But we are just getting to that potential truth. We may need Samuel Jackson to deal with the snakes on our plane.
Hmmmm…OK. I guess. All white male ticket for the Dems, then?
Sorry i can’t get terribly excited about the rehash of yesterday’s white male politicians regaining their old seats of power, but that’s just me, i suppose.
Ok. Now I’m beginning to consider something deeply strategic is going on. Manchin has a nice chat with the NAACP and reaffirms his allegiance to the cause, but… the filibuster!?
Meanwhile, the Dem leadership is not tagging him as persona non grata. Why? Because he is providing a valuable service in keeping Dem activists motivated to secure more Senate seats in 2022.
The 2022 contests are exceptionally favourable to the Dems. Kelly and Warnock need to defend their seats, but gains in NC, PA and WI are obtainable. A 53-47 Senate can easily make a case to kill the filibuster and give the Dems free reign in the senate for a minimum of 6 years (a lifetime in politics).
What this suggests is that the Dems have done the calculations and found that the voting restrictions advanced by the rethuglikans will harm themselves so much that it won’t move the trending needle for state contests.
Manchin is being a shit-disturber. Protected from the ballot until 2024, it’s a role he can play without real consequences. The absence of panic among the Dem leadership suggests they (quietly) welcome what he is doing.
Quite frankly, he’s conflicted. He understands the need to protect the right to vote, but he is committed to the procedural rules of the Senate out of concern that if they are eroded today on one side of the aisle, they’ll be used against the other side of the aisle in the future
In other news, he attempts to explain his blindness, to the Republicans eroding the procedural rules of the Senate.
You got that right. It wasn’t so long ago that Virginia was vivid red, then it was purple for quite awhile. In recent years, it’s become more blue. That said, when one looks outside my Northern Virginia bubble, one sees that there is still plenty of red throughout the state. The times, they are a-changin’ in Virginia, but we’re not there yet. If these three guys are the ones that can continue the recent pattern of Dems holding the state executive, then these three are the ones that I will support wholeheartedly for the next several months. Politics is usually about getting the good-enough (or even the better-than-the-alternative) rather than getting the perfect. Incremental progress is still progress over the long run.
If Manchin worships the filibuster so much, then fine, change the Senate rules back to what they were before 1965ish, when you had to do a talking filibuster not this current crap of merely THREATENING a filibuster. This was introduced to preserve the “dignity of the Senate” from the sight of racists talking for hours opposing civil rights legislation and preventing anything else from being done. Now filibusters are essentially anonymous MAKE THESE RACIST BASTARDS STAND UP IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE NATION AND DECLARE THEMSELVES FOR WHAT THEY ARE!
It will always be thus. California is the bluest blue state in the country, thanks to GQP gaffes starting about 30 years ago. The San Joaquin Valley is still bright red… Orange County is reddish purple. San Diego County is pretty f***ing red, too.
