Maybe it’s time to have some reporters asking him him some needling questions about whether Mitch will “let him” call some witnesses.
McConnell wins here; he always does and he has more clout, which the Moron doesn’t understand. And Americans will move onto the next news cycle.
My money is on the Turtle. He has a plan to run a ‘sham’ trial - and close it all down before the “State of the Union” - where, as he promises Trump - he’ll be able to strut his victory walk through the house.
I heard from a Trump co-worker, “Of course it will be a mockery of a ‘trial’ - it was a mockery of an ‘impeachment’ - it’s only fair. Let Trump continue to Make America Great. McConnell is just going to trigger the libs with his fake trial - and I’m okay with that.”
Seriously.
That’s how they think.
The Turtle looks pissed.
McConnell’s efforts to forgo even a pretense of impartial justice are obviously a betrayal of his various oaths and duties as a Senator and even as an ostensibly-patriotic American, but equally obviously, they are the best plan in a cynical and craven political sense. Every minute of the Senate process will be damaging to Trump, no matter what damn fool plan the dotard thinks he has about whistleblower this or Steele that.
So bring it, Donald. You’re strong and Mad Mitch is weak–don’t let him cow you, like a dog!
Moscow McConnell’s crookedness would make one feel that he or she is in the presence of a truly dishonest and malevolent person.
It’s for power, money, judges and all the right things we say on this site.
But I also have a very strong feeling that Moscow McConnell is the most sadistic person to have ever served in the U.S. Government at the Federal level**
If there was not a red cent in remuneration for his deeds, Moscow McConnell would pay people for the opportunity to do what he does.
**Trump is mentally ill. McConnell is simply…evil
Oh, gee, I hope that cartoonist doesn’t wake up one morning to a drunk Stephanie Grisham banging on his door, demanding an apology to Melanoma for bullying Barron. Because, as we all know, BeBest only applies to underage members of Crime Family Trump.
Interesting. I always figured Trump supporters knew he was guilty and didn’t care. But if your co-worker thinks a trial is okay, then … ugh, my brain hurts.
Well yeah - you’re right. They KNOW he did what he did. They know it’s ‘wrong’ - in some sort of technical arcane way - some sort of minor ‘process’ crime - but they really don’t give a shit. As long as he keeps ‘winning’ - the end justifies the means. That’s why their numbers won’t budge. A sham trial is just fine - because in their view - it’s payback for a ‘fake impeachment’. Honestly.
So, according to the WSJ (a pinko-commie rag), the GOP senate and the presidency ARE NOT in cahoots regarding the trial. Interesting timing, since the last few days the news cycle has been awash in stories very much claiming the opposite.
I would dispute the idea that “think” properly describes the process that gets them to their conclusions. Does a lizard brain “think”?
Ok, so the House votes on the impeachment articles. The courts have delayed their decision on the taxes release.
Will Nancy hold on to the articles, pending the court decision? It’s possible those tax records might be the tipping point, especially given the hard fight Trump is doing to keep them private. Something in there isn’t good.
He has a plan to run a ‘sham’ trial - and close it all down before the “State of the Union”
He can’t do it if she doesn’t send them. That’s how to stop that, totally legitimately.
Oh, they’ll still do it, but they’ll have to contort themselves into even more bizarre pretzels to “explain” their vote, especially if the public watches the spectacle and some voters wake up to what a shit show it is.
I long ago lost the link, but some schmuck in Iowa was interviewed during the initial China trade imbroglio and he explained that he knew Trump was going to hurt people, but he “wasn’t hurting the right people”. That schmuck was exactly right and he summed Trumpism up completely: it’s a culture of resentment and retribution from people who feel like they’ve been losers for their whole lives, and 2016 was the first time they’d ever been a winner. They’ll take Trump to their graves.
(There’s an interesting parallel here in the Democratic health care debate between those primary voters who define the end goal as delivering affordable, high-quality, universal insurance coverage and those who define the end goal as hurting the bad insurance companies. The plans they produce may end up looking similar, but the candidates they support tend to be different.)
Well, I’m not using the term ‘reason’ - so yeah - think works.
I think…
Ah but the dems hold the cards in setting what kind of, IF there’s a trial @ all. If the majority refuses the dems demands that the trial be like clintons with a equal protocol and witnesses, then they can withhold the trial all together…and drag it into the 2020 cycle…
And they can’t use the ‘unprecented’ argument. This has all happened before.
Politicians develop ways to project confidence they may not have.
It’s a job requirement.
I have seen Obama do it. And other Good Guys in the WH.
In the case of McConnell and Trump I would like to use the Basic Training term “Combat Speed”.
That term applies to actions the alacrity of which are executed when one is in combat (scared out of one’s mind).
Trump (who would run the 100 meters in two weeks) and McConnell, a frail 77-year-old, nevertheless are at Combat Speed on this one:
D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E
NPD POTUS has a mysterious enemy to keep pounding away at who can do nothing about it. It’s his hobby horse and perfect for an NPD. Sort of like the Boy Who Cried Wolf.
Always remember and never forget (as I posted earlier elsewhere):
Those who say he did it, testified under oath.
Those who say he didn’t do it, have not testified under oath.
That’s the whole thing in a nutshell.
