Mulvaney Confirms Trump Held Up Ukraine Aid Over DNC Server Conspiracy | Talking Points Memo

Next the GOP will blame Snowden for all of this.

About that cease fire in Turkey…it just for 120 hours while the Kurds evacuate the area. So basically the US is giving Turkey all they want without having to even fight the Kurds for it…now lets see what the Kurds think about it. The most nausea inducing part is the public sloppy fellatio that Pence saw fit before making his anouncement.

I see a romance in Mr. Mulvaney’s future…

Karl pressed: “To be clear, what you described is a quid pro quo, it is, funding will not flow unless the investigation into the Democratic server happens as well?”

Mulvaney didn’t deny the characterization.

“We do that all the time with foreign policy,” he said.

It is absolutely astounding that they can say “Both sides do it” with a straight face. It is un-fucking believable that millions of Americans believe that this is true! :persevere:

All the stuff about “the DNC wouldn’t let the FBI examine the server!” and “the server is sitting somewhere in Ukraine” is bullshit created by people who don’t understand how any of this works, for people who don’t understand how it works.

From a post-mortem attack analysis standpoint, the physical location of the server is 100% irrelevant unless there is reason to suspect the hardware itself was hacked, and that’s almost never the case. Crowdstrike, the FBI, or whomever else wants to analyze an attack like the one that hit the DNC has absolutely no need to access the physical machine. What they need are network logs, DNS logs, disk access logs, and the like. Some of these exist as digital files on the server (which can be trivially copied and emailed around for analysis), and some of these exist as logs on other machines – routers, network switches, etc. Depending on how the DNC had their network system set up, there might not have even been a single, particular physical server involved.

The old bait and switch trick on a gargantuan scale.

The server does exist, but as I understand it, U.S. investigators have already imaged it. So the FBI already has every bit of data off of the server.

In other words, there is no missing server. There’s no physical box locked away in a vault somewhere. There are simply copies of what the DNC’s systems looked like at the time of the attack, which both CrowdStrike and the DNC confirm were shared with the FBI during the investigation, no U-Haul required.

I think the sales guy at Aaron’s Rents set it all up.

I’d long presumed it was a question of image vs hardware, but I had no idea that the actual origin of that myth was also literally its own debunking.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good narrative. These folks have to keep their base outraged and most of them don’t understand this stuff anyway. So they can be told whatever is necessary and never challenge the source.

Cognitive dissonance will prevent any of them of believing anything the media or you and I can tell them. All that matters is what comes from Trump and his henchmen. They’ll say and do anything to survive.

Latin is the secret language of Communists, so, you know, this doesn’t count.
