More Than Two Years After George Floyd’s Murder Sparked A Movement, Police Reform Has Stalled. What Happened?

Just WHAT crimes are up? Seems as if there’s both an over-reporting and non-reporting issue going on here.
Think about it; every state where pot was legalized ELIMNINATED the biggest crime on their books.
How does that not weigh against the stats that seem to be coming from disgruntled law enforcement in the first place?
In their angry eyes, it is all about taking away their natural born right to back-shoot some Black kid who bolts because he has a bag of pot in his pocket.
Their perceived “right” to use that kind of deadly force in otherwise non-dangerous events is the problem.
Their “authority” is nothing more than compulsive culture-dominance, not real authority.
And they have guns, which they idolize and want to shoot, as a peer challenge they DESPERATELY want to shoot someone who is Black.
They want notches on those guns, it is a peer-pressure thing among the many racists in their ranks, and they will lie to anyone outside their inner circle about it.
But speaking to each other, they are all itching to kill someone Black.
It is a club within their ranks.
Bet on it.

Cute little puppies turn into big, smart watchdogs eventually.
And NO, your cat doesn’t qualify.
Even a barky little lap dog can discourage burglars just in knowing they are around.
That cat hissing, not so much.

Apparently not!

Of course, Greater Los Angeles has its own housing problems; we are fortunate that the climate is such that people can improvise shelter. What nobody can improvise is land, or more precisely, land that comes with right-to-build permission for denser housing.

They could start with a land-value tax, but

  • “OMG grandma would lose her house”

Well, you could move tax increases into a lien payable at transfer of ownership

  • “OMG grandma wouldn’t lose her house but I wouldn’t inherit it either. And I can’t afford to live here without a free house.”

Well, isn’t that level of housing unaffordability a bit of a problem?

So many of California’s problems can be traced to a desire to shift costs to newcomers. The state motto is “Locals only, dude!”

I’m not sure that’s entirely true. One theory of why crimes aren’t getting cleared is that police are still sulking from finding out just how many people no longer will give them carte blanche in return for keeping the colored people out of “nice” neighborhoods.

And every time an unarmed man is shot in the back by police, it’s now literally a national news story on the same day, which is great.

Caveat: unarmed dead white people must roll a d6 to see if they’re newsworthy.
