“Conservative” is another term that should be retired for similar reasons. It conveys a sense of respectability that its bearer usually does not deserve. It is a fig leaf for racism, authoritarianism, and corruption.
They did indeed. McCain always provided doughnuts and made up cute names for each of them.
Yea, I’ve always found the term conservative to be as useless as moderate these days. The right, now, are psychotic trolling assholes who want to destroy democracy. Doesn’t sound too conservative to me. Moderate republicans? Still psychotic bare knuckle free market assholes who want to make sure you work until you die and not offer any help… only they want to do that through regular order, not armed rebellion (though they will also support voter restriction / suppression leading to minoritarian rule). Hardly ‘conservative’ nor ‘moderate’
The right these days would make Reagan look like a radical leftist.
Like undecided voters.
Hard to imagine anyone who got so much credit for doing the right thing once or twice in a lifetime. The closer you look at McCain, the more you find out he was really quite consistently awful for decades.
I am in basic agreement with you. But, to be fair, we must admit that Sen. McCain did save the ACA. Perhaps he wanted to do something honorable on his way out.
At least Boris and Natasha were good for a few laughs.
If only Moose and Squirrel could put these two in their place.
Or John Kasich on nitrous oxide.
Donald Trump figures in here prominently, so he might as well be mentioned.
I do believe there was once a time when “moderate” had a meaning, probably when Republicans from northern states had some juice within their party and there were social progressives in both parties. But now, when one party demands everything and gives nothing in return, brooks no compromise, and fails to regard the other party as legitimate, then moderate is synonymous with cowardice and weakness. In the face of fascism, moderation is a sin and a sure way to lose the battle.
Well, McCain was a maverick, a stupid, desperate maverick, when he chose Sarah Palin as his VP running mate. An old cancer survivor choosing such a dimwit was massively reckless, cuckoo, and a political stunt. It was unforgivable.
The voters are going to tell Sinema to “Fuck Off” in 2024.
Neither does “sellout”, or “D-KStreet”.
The path to enlightenment is through leading a moderate life.
…and dead armadillos.
(I think the quote comes from a Texan)
and roadkill.
