The attitude taken by Mnuchin is unfortunately typical of the over-privileged who think economic considerations somehow belong in the same conversation as scientific discussions. It’s all just so much Chamber of Commerce driven b.s.
There is nothing in the field of economics that would lead one to the conclusion that we have to burn fossil fuels. It’s simply a choice that has been made, largely because burning fossil fuels is so easy to do. But the rebuttal to “burning fossil fuels is damaging the environment” is not “but it’s profitable!”

I agree, they are short sighted. I am willing to bet they think they can get in, get what they want and dash away before the good guys show up again. So it is cynical as hell.

How does someone even lie about this and keep a straight face? It’s not just CO2, which at least appears clean at first and doesn’t kill you directly. They’re rolling back every rule they can get their hands on to allow more toxic, obvious pollution as well.
