Mitt Romney Scolds ‘Sick Puppy’ George Santos At SOTU

A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo.

Confronted by the spectacle of Rep. George Santos (R-NY) glad-handing official Washington on the floor of the House chamber moments before President Biden’s State of the Union address, Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) had had enough:

First. Spent most of last night at an Emergency Care Center with my mom. I appreciate the TPM writers and commenters for the the coverage last night and this morning. From what I have seen, looks like Joe did good and the hooliganism of the usual House GOP hooligans happened as expected.

Joe Biden was on fire last night. For a lot of us, we reach a peak in our careers and then slow down towards retirement. Maybe Joe is someone who just keeps getting better. Personally, I think he’s at the top of his game.

Biden killed. He made a great speech. And it was done in the face of rude heckling from McCarthy’s members whom he was unable to control.

The difference between President Biden and tfg: Biden prepped, tfg perped.

Thank you. It’s not fatal or lethal. I’ll be spending the afternoon and probably night with her at the hospital today. TPM will help pass the time. Maybe I can get in a few video excerpts of last night’s speech. Saw a couple late last night.

As long as McCarthy doesn’t interfere, it’s possible the House ethics committee will do the right thing concerning Anthony Devolder.

I don’t see any grandstanding yahoos on this list.

Hey Mitt, place the blame for Santos where it belongs: Square on the shoulders of tfg, without whom Santos would not have been possible.

So, yeah. It turns out, being a politician for 40, 50 years, requires that you know certain things, and, teaches you things. Everyone seems to forget that “Sleepy Joe” has been at this for a very long time, and couldn’t have done that without having some kind of talent. Last night, he was just flexing on all those fools in the GOP who haven’t got but single digit percents as much experience as he has.

McCarthy did not know which way to look.

Perhaps he needs a little encouragement.

You know, Eustace, sometimes sometimes, I suspect that you’re not entirely sincere in your support of “conservatism.” Blink three times if the woke mob/antifa is holding you hostage.

Does anyone else recall when one former President suggested that simply failing to applaud for him was treasonous? I wonder how appalled he’d be at the GOP’s behavior last night.

Meanwhile the McGonigal plot thickens…

Yeah, so they can make sure they have ALL the evidence when they light it on fire.
From what I have heard so far, they RUSHED to claim it was merely greed and no deeper malfeasance. If I have time I will read the article, perhaps I’ll be dissuaded.

I know it will never happen, but I’d love for Biden to secretly record negotiations and release tapes of Republicans fighting to cut social security and Medicare. To me, it is so obvious that Republicans want to cut the programs that they have opposed since Roosevelt and Johnson created them. Still, many dummies don’t understand this, and democracy would benefit from them figuring it out.
