My dad made a DIY crystal set when he was 7 years old … in 1920. My grandparents had pooh-poohed the idea of radio, but re-thought their appraisal when they heard the result. Of course, they didn’t hear much because my dad had it in his room. So they made him an offer he couldn’t resist: in exchange for moving the crystal radio to the living room, they gave him a pair of walrus tusks to mount on his bedroom wall.

My making a crystal set was just for fun. A cheap radio in 1920 was about $35, so it was a luxury. People made crystal sets.
Our first radio was bought used in mid 30s before I was born.
My mom swapped vacuum tubes occasionally in it and we used that for years. Radio delivered news, entertainment, good and bad political leaders.
Radio, Scranton Times, and Life magazine were our windows on the world.

I just do not understand why we’re forced to live under a lawless criminal administration and just fear the damage to come. When the fuck are we going to put a stop to it? When the fuck are we going to hold every one of these motherfuckers accountable - from Miller on down to every asshole in a mask abducting people. If we don’t do even that, what’s the fucking point?
