Nope. They will appeal this to the top. The Repugs in this state think they are the end all of end alls aren’t aren’t wrong, especially if they are losing to a (gasp) woman. They want to be able to stop any D women (or men) from taking care of people, but if it were a Repug man, they would sheepishly look away per 8 yrs of Dick Snyder.

He has defiantly refused to wear a mask in public despite the recommendations of federal health officials, toured a Ford plant in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Thursday with his face uncovered. It was against the factory’s guidelines and the urging of Michigan’s attorney general, who had written him earlier that it was “the law of this state.”
Mr. Trump said he had put on a mask when he was asked to on a private portion of the tour, showing reporters a navy blue one with the presidential seal on it but not wearing it, even as the Ford executives around him wore masks.
“I didn’t want to give the press the pleasure of seeing it,” Mr. Trump said. At one point during the tour, Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” blared over the loudspeakers.
The Ford Motor Company later said in a statement that William Clay Ford Jr., its executive chairman, had “encouraged President Trump to wear a mask when he arrived.”

As much as I hated C.S. Lewis’ That Hideous Strength, I keep coming back to the ending, which seems prescient now, if not perhaps in the sense that Lewis was imagining. In that, men create a talking head as the “voice of God” that they think they control in order to control the masses. But eventually, the head starts giving orders unbidden (controlled by the devil) and the men find they can’t help but follow its demands (which involve committing mass suicide).

Yes. Not to dump on any one person, but I’m pretty tired of seeing the party of the judge or the nominating executive be cited as the beginning and end of any analysis of their ruling or potential ruling. Yes, it’s disgusting that republicans have been able to play games and stack the benches with their nominees, but I think some of them (not all) before the DT era are probably actual conservatives who aren’t on board with the utter BS of current republican orthodoxy.

Herd immunity doesn’t mean nobody will get sick, it just means that the chances of folks who are not immune getting sick is reduced. Think immune-compromised folks getting Measles if enough anti-vaxxers allow the disease to take hold in their community.
Specifically on the subject of Smallpox, when I was a kid in the Cubs Scouts the husband of the pack leader had experienced smallpox as a kid. We all knew this because his face was a mass of giant red blotches. Herd immunity didn’t protect him from the disease, or the permanent scarring that resulted and it won’t protect those among us who are liable to suffer the most if they contract COVID-19.

There is no “herd immunity” without a vaccine. They are lying. Herd immunity requires a vaccine. The herd effect is only achievable with a high vaccination rate.

True. That means we’re not even sure we can get “herd immunity”, but the canard being sold here is that if enough of us can just get sick, then none of us will get sick. The former means a whole lotta people die or are permanently injured, but even if we get to 80 percent sick and recovered, the remaining 20 percent can still get infected and there be further suffering, if there are no controls on those who are sick and still propagating the disease, be they with or without visible symptoms.
See the exchange I had with others earlier today about how this is really at its root about the selfish bastards trying to justify their selfish bastardness…

Without Googling around to get the exact story, there are a ton of young-ish people who hate trumPP, his policies, his treatment of people, his insults, etc., but they won’t abandon him because of his anti-abortion stance. They won’t leave him even though everything he has done and will do again if we don’t stop him hurts them. There’s probably a woman or two in that cohort who’ll find she needs abortion because of any number of reasons, but won’t have access to one. I don’t get it.
