McConnell Laughs Off Trump’s Efforts To Oust Him As Leader

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) isn’t losing sleep over former President Trump’s crusade to get him booted as leader.

Holy crap; McConnell actually said something that made sense.

Is Hell freezing over?

He’s so goddamned pleased with himself. I hope he’s alive when we finally add additional members to the Supreme Court.

Another bit of data confirming that McConnell thinks Trump is going to lose control of the Republican party and that now is the time to start driving a wedge to separate Republicans from Trump and his minions. Quietly ignoring Trump is different from open defiance, especially on the 2020 election lie that Trump won.

The real question is what changed…Trump’s legal exposure isn’t any different, so my guess is either the unhinged direction Trump is driving the party is showing the Republicans losing badly, or else the Jan 6th committee is about to drop something so damaging that the sane Republicans are trying to separate themselves in the hopes they can hold onto power. I’m not sure what else would start this open defiance, especially after a year of kowtowing to Trump’s behavior. Whatever it is, it’s better for the nation to undo Trump’s control of the Republican party.

It’s a rare day indeed when I’m happy about anything that makes MoscowMitch McConnell smile.

I’m willing to make a policy exception for laughing at That Guy, though. Because it’s really going to wind him up.

Steve Schmidt gave about as riveting a refutation of Trumpism as I have heard recently last nite on Lawrence’s show.

I don’t understand the change in Moscow Mitch, but I love the idea that it must be pissing the holy hell out of Hair Furor and his MAGAty minions…

[…] McConnell continued. “If it’s bad for the country and bad for Republicans, I’m against it.”

“On the other hand, if it’s bad for the country but good for Republicans, like refusing to respond to clear Russian interference in an election, then I’m all for it.”

Can we do, “Reactionaries in Disarray” yet?

I’m not a fan of McConnell at all, but his reply to Donnie was a fine blend of humor and shade.

I’d be happy if he croaked today.

I hate it when he sounds human.

Donors uneasy? Republicans like McConnell don’t care for overtly radicalized Trump Christians taking control of the Party?

I wonder who at Mar-A-Lago will have to translate Mitch’s statement/spin Mitch’s state to Trump?

You’re really into stress testing, aren’t you?

And to think, we would never be where we are if McConnell’s vote and his “statement” after the 2nd Impeachment vote had synced up and he had told the rest of his Caucus to do what was right, rather than what was political.

I think they’re not nearly as confident about winning the midterms as they appear to be. Their top Senate candidates are downright embarrassing. He may have made the political calculation that whether or not they do well now is the time to start the deTrumping.

McConnell is up for election in 5 years, right? At his age I doubt he’ll run again so this all makes sense for him.
