He will ignore the impeachment entirely. He will go full on bellicose, ranting about Iranā¦especially if any attacks happen between now and thenā¦and fill in the rest with stump speech rhetoric. Maybe even a few insults thrown at Pelosi just for kicks and to shock the media mavens.
Yes, she will prevent him from saying he was officially acquitted, but I wouldnāt be the least surprised if he makes any reference, it will be that the Senate is going to exonerate himā¦āpeople tell me, sir, you are going to be exonerated. Big powerful men, with tears of gratitude in their eyesā But he probably wonāt even mention it.
All that being said, I love Nancy Pelosiās leadershipā¦but I am still questioning why the rush to pass such a limited number of Articles of Impeachment and shut down the inquiry, when she was going to hold it up like this anyway? Just imagine if they were still holding the impeachment hearings, and were pushing the courts on the subpoenas right nowā¦

She can still do that. Re-open investigations, compel witnesses, add more articles. The witness part will take more time, however, which is why Pelosi took what was solid and under her belt and impeached Bonespurs. Not only does that respect her oath of office but itās good politics going into the election.

How disingenuous can Moscow Mitch get? The question of witnesses during the Clinton impeachment trial had already given sworn statements, and the only question was whether to have them repeat themselves in front of the Senate. These witnesses needed for any semblance of a fair trial have so far been prevented from giving testimony.
This is chutzpah of the highest order in that the Republicans continue to say we have only hearsay evidence, and these are the people who could provide first hand evidence.

Itās not twenty years ago. The Senate no longer has civility & decorum. Moreover, McConnell has demonstrated he refuses to follow or use Senate historical protocol. There are over 400 bills he refuses to put on floor for debate. He changed minimum number of votes needed for judgeship confirmation & has crammed through 100s of unqualified judges. He refused to give Garland a senate hearing. This is not a man who follows historical precedent.
He makes historic precedent, by rigging the rules for his desired outcome. There is no one that should think he is going to EVER call witnesses. Heās Putinās pawn. Bought & paid for.
All McConnel is going to do is vote for acquittal. There will not be a hearing/trial in Senate whatsoever.
