I don’t see us avoiding at least brief default at this point. And, regardless of that, we’re all but certain to have a protracted shutdown this fall.

What Republicans want is total power and if they can’t get it they are prepared to destroy America. That is to current Republicans, a liberal democracy where all people regardless of ethnicity are equal is worse than Putin’s Russia. And that is why McCarthy cannot specifically say what Republicans want because it is dictatorship with them being the dictators.
Notice that the only spending cut specifically discussed would actually increase the deficit because unlike to lie Republicans have been saying about tax cuts for billionaires, food stamps actually brings in more money to the treasury through the economic multiplier, a phenomenon whereby a given change in a particular input, such as government spending, causes a larger change in an output, such as gross domestic product.
This is just one of many other Republican policies that are very unpopular that Republicans cannot openly advocate for them to include healthcare, end all Government and employee sponsored health care and have a system where each individual has to negotiate with healthcare providers, end public education, state control of women’s bodies, destroy labor unions, to name a few.
The goal of the debt ceiling debate is for Republicans to use it to gain total power in America and subvert the democratic process so they can implement their unpopular agenda or in the alternative destroy liberal democracy.

It’s time to end this farce. Biden needs to put out an Executive Order suspending the stupid “debt ceiling” idiocy and tell McCarthy and the Trumpist Party to go fuck themselves. This whole thing is stupid, because the debt ceiling issue (stupid as it is) covers monies already budgeted or spent. If the Trumpists don’t like it, they can protest all they want. Then I’d advise Biden to set the IRS loose on every Trumpist Representative and Senator to show them what real weaponization of the government means. If that doesn’t impress them, then the 4 top Trumpists should be arrested and charged with heading a domestic terrorist organization. Fuck 'em!
