Why are we supposed to feel sorry for Kevin McCarthy? We should pity the GOP if this is what their front lineup looks like. Bill Thomas, his groomer and personal mentor, got fed up with him a couple years ago for sucking up to Trump. How can a person be the top leader in the House and a suck-up?

They’d be insane to do that. It lets the party that was in the minority in january call for a revote if the composition of the House should change (eg. deaths from covid, resigned for a juicier job, convicted of felony, all things that have happened to gop members the past 4 years).

I don’t have the answer but I suspect the process to elect the new one is done as quickly as possible, in the proverbial heartbeat if you will.

Actually, I could see McCarthy, just barely get the Speakership to then be run out shortly after, for the simple act of following the tradition to allow the president to address congress…

Should that come to pass they will stand two large burly SS agents between Biden and the speaker, facing the speaker. National Security, donchaknow. And those two brave agents will then go immediately into three week quarantine before resuming any duties.

I blame the democrats. If only more of them had had the good sense to lose, then Republicans would be able to get there shit together. But, like tax cuts for rich, the reason they fail to do as promised is because there just are never enough of them.

A few years ago, Democrats and what was left of moderate Republicans in the Texas House got together and elected Republican Joe Straus as Speaker. Joe did a pretty good job until he was hounded out by the crazies. Any chance of something like that happening in DC? Someone like a Kinzinger, if there are any left?

Bullshit. There are crazies in every population. When demagogues crank up the rhetoric and name the targets of that rhetoric, a certain few of the crazies will take this as permission to “do something about it”. It’s called stochastic terrorism, where asshole politicans turn up the heat until some pots boil over. Do you think Cesar Sayoc, living in his van down by the river in Florida, was sending pipe bombs to democratic politicians due to his disagreement over an application of keynesian economics?
