McCarthy Puts Speakership On The Line With Quick Vote On Mutiny

This is going to be days and days of entertainment that will ultimately leave the Republican party (such as it is) in shambles. We are watching one of the two national parties break up before our eyes.

If McCarthy, who previously voiced strong support for aid to Ukraine, flipping on the issue does not allow him to keep the title “Speaker of the House”, then why did he do it?

While MTG is the leader of the Putin Caucus, Matt Gaetz is clearly a member. So it is likely there will not be enough votes to ouster McCarthy from the Putin Caucus alone. The question is will the rest of the Republicans do what they have always done, fall in line or not.

I predict all Republicans not in the bought off Putin Caucus, will do what they have always done and fall in line behind the Putin Caucus.

Also, McCarthy approved subcommittees holding Biden impeachment hearings without a prerequisite House vote. This seems to be not working to Reps advantage.

Time for the proverbial put-up-or-shut-up.

This could be fun.

And this is a bad thing?

Generally speaking he is right. Let’s see how he feels in a week. This is the result of the Republicans failure to secure a red wave in 2022. They took a very slim majority without the leadership having the tools and skill to keep that slim majority in line. This was a term for the Republicans to reflect and rebuild but that requires real grown up leadership. There is none in the Republican Congressional membership or among the billionaire libertarians who fund the Republican party. The Republican party deserves to go the way of the Whigs.

Yes, but at the same time, there’s Ukrainian funding and the November CR/Budget to be worked on. This is a distraction that isn’t going to help either effort.

And it won’t be any better later either.

No it isn’t. Let’s just get on with it so the country can begin recovery.

‘Our government is designed to have compromise but look we’re in the majority,” McCarthy told reporters. “You don’t surrender.”’

McCarthy: Goverment is designed to have compromise but we won’t do that.
